We originally planted the Bluebells as juice grapes, not wine grapes. However, we discovered they make a great wine. Their taste is very distinct and "grapey" with sweet, floral notes. Bluebell is a hardy, well-producing grape.

Brianna is a cold climate variety developed by Elmer Swenson. Brianna yeilds medium to large, thick-skinned, golden berries. Brianna creates a wonderful semi-sweet table wine, with notes of pineapple, floral and banana flavors. Brianna is similar in taste to Edelweiss, but lacks the distinctive cotton-candy sweetness of it's sister.

June's favorite, the Edelweiss is a very winter-hardy child of the Ontario grape. It was developed by Elmer Swenson in 1980 at the University of Minnesota. Edelweiss is characterized by it's distinct sweet flavor whom some describe as strawberry-banana and some as cotton candy. Edelweiss produces large, golden fruit.

Marquette is a close relative to the Frontenac and Pinot Noir grape varieties. This variety was developed by the University of Minnesota and introduced to the market in 2006. Marquette is an ideal grape for our chilly Northern climate and short growing season. Marquette’s high sugar and low acidity make a complex and delicious wine. Our Marquette is smooth, rich, and complex without the tannic bite typically found in red wines. While not a sweet wine, our Marquette is definitely not dry either. We like to think it’s just perfect.

Wild grape, Vitis riparia, is a very common vine of Iowa woodlands. Wild grapes are small, dark, and sweet, with large seeds. Although they are more work to press, the juice from these darlings is unsurpassed. Perfect for jellies and jams, this grape explodes with flavor. We have made a few experimental batches of wild grape wine and have yet to be disappointed.
