Westbrook Wine Farm

Westbrook Wine Farm Our vineyard and winery are located on a mountainous forty acre site at an elevation of 1800 feet in the central Sierra Nevada range of eastern Madera County, California. We are close to the hamlet of O'Neals and not far from Bass Lake, the town of Oakhurst and the Southern entrance to Yosemite National Park. We farm our own Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Carmenere grapes on our property. Our goal was and is to make red wine, styled similar to those from France's Bordeaux region. Some traditional methods that we wanted to follow influenced our search for a vineyard site, which began in 1989. We purchased the property in 1995 and immediately began to prepare it for planting.

Products

  Cabernet Sauvignon
... this old head-trained and spur-pruned vineyard in the Lodi / Woodbridge area provides great fruit to work with. Dark cherries, dark roses, chocolate, truffles, cedar and Cabernet Sauvignon fruit.
  Estate Grown Fait Accompli
This is our flagship wine, a co-fermented field blend of grapes from our estate. "Fait accompli" translates from French to English as "accomplished fact." Fashioned in the style of red wines from Bordeaux, our wine is a full flavored, deeply colored, highly extracted, yet civilized, Claret. Winemaking (to use the popular term) at Westbrook Wine Farm is atypical, in that we say and mean that our wine is literally "made" in the vineyard. Although there is some variation, allowing for changes from one vintage to the next, our proprietary field blend is approximately 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Malbec, 8% Merlot, 7% Petite Verdot, and ?% Carmenere.
  Viognier / Valdiguie
...is our proprietary blend of these grapes grown by Simpson Meadow Vineyards in Madera County. Whole cluster pressed and barrel fermented, bottled early to preserve its beguiling characteristics. Viognier contributes its unique tropical / melon sensations and silky glycerol textures, while Valdiguie brings ripe berries and a sassy crispness to the mix.. The new flash-toasted Eastern European oak barrels are responsible for the sweet vanilla and spice which tie this cuvée together
