Colterris Overlook
|
|
Colterris is located in Palisade on Colorado’s beautiful and picturesque Western Slope.
The Grand Valley AVA, specifically East Orchard Mesa, produce world class wine grapes rich in color, intense fruit flavors, and characteristics that make Colterris wines unique.
Colterris is on the Palisade “Fruit & Wine Byway” in East Orchard Mesa. The name Colterris was derived by combining a three letter abbreviation of Colorado “Col” with the Latin word “terris” meaning from the land. The favorable eco-climate of Theresa’s Vineyard, volcanic soils of the Grand Mesa, and the waters of the Colorado River produce world class wine grapes high in quality and distinction.

Cabernet Sauvignon
At 120 cases this Cab's brilliantly pure nose literally explodes from the glass and then gets better with time. Textured but not overdone. Here’s a Cabernet with a nose so true and dense that you can barely get inside, but once you do everything is there. Huge, dynamic fruit plays off fine wood notes. A very big, very black wine. It offers wonderful density and concentration, ripe balance, and plummy, mixed red fruits. Elegantly astringent tannins build up and prolong the flavorful, palate-caressing finish. It’s tight now, but for fans of masculine Cabs that still feature a core of fruit, this is terrific stuff. Silver Medal Winner at the 2006 Denver International Wine Competition

Syrah
This limited (160 case) Syrah is beautiful and a joy to drink. It pours dark as night, flowing like glycerin. It smells tight, earthy and young now, offering up just a tease of cassis. But it erupts on the palate with its seductive and wonderfully sharp spiciness; the tart fruits tumble out in a pile of mixed berry and cherry that begins with a burst of freshly ground black pepper sprinkled over blackberries and rum-soaked plums, integrated with rich scents of grilled meat. The wine is seamless, smooth and long; the oak beautifully integrated. It’s also mouth filling, and has so many facets, it’s hard to keep track. The depth of flavor is stunning, while dusty tannins provide structure. This is a remarkable Syrah with obvious ageability. It makes it hard to describe the smooth mouthfeel, or the fancy aftertaste. For all the flamboyance, it’s a dry, controlled wine, assured of itself and in perfect balance. Extraordinarily rich now, but will unquestionably develop.
