Wildhurst Vineyards

Wildhurst Vineyards Wildhurst Vineyards begins its story in the pear orchards of Kelseyville, nestled against the flank of Mt. Konocti in Lake County, just north of the famed Napa Valley. There, in 1966, fifth-generation pear grower Myron Holdenried decided to replant an orchard with 30 acres of Zinfandel grapes. Hurst is a Gaelic word meaning "wooded hillside" and "wild hurst" is the perfect description for the verdant slopes of Mt. Konocti overlooking the Holdenried ranch. Wildhurst's home vineyard lies at the foot of the dormant volcano's western exposure, and from the home vineyard the view is spectacular, rugged and beautiful. The name evokes the spreading California native oaks that dot the vineyard acreage, and the zest for nature and simple living that characterize this lovely rural area. In this spirit, Wildhurst makes direct, hand-crafted wines from a winemaker's passion and a farmer's love of his land.

  Clear Lake Cabernet Sauvignon
Wildhurst Cabernet Sauvignon breaks new ground in showcasing the possibilities of this noble varietal in Lake County. The vineyard lots are vinified separately and placed in French and American oak barrels, and only after aging are the lots carefully blended to create the finished wine. Each barrel is selected for a particular quality it will impart to, or enhance in, the finished wine . Deep ruby in color, with ripe varietal character of black currant, anise and fig, the wine combines robust fruit and firm tannins in a lean and elegant style.
  Clear Lake Merlot
Our signature red, Wildhurst Merlot is an excellent example of superior fruit crafted into straightforward, well-made wine. Classic Merlot characteristics are carefully brought forward - the black cherry flavors, the intriguing cedar and earthy notes, the touch of spice - in a wine that is easy-drinking without sacrificing complexity. A must for dedicated Merlot fans...savor with a grilled New York strip or with roasted duck.
  Clear Lake Muscat Canelli
This wine is fragrant with orange blossom and honeysuckle. It is very round and soft with enough acidity to exhibit great structure. Residual sugar is 3.5%.
  Clear Lake Sauvignon Blanc Reserve
Our Sauvignon Blanc is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, preserving the lush aromas and fruit flavors that develop during Lake County's short, warm growing season. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc with a splash of Semillon creates intense concentrated grapefruit and lime peel freshness. Intense and vibrant tangerine, gooseberry and lush herbs with a crisp, edgy finish.
  Clear Lake Zinfandel
Lake County’s high altitude produces brief, warm growing seasons. The swift heat means our Zinfandel grapes opens ripe and jammy with vanilla and pepper notes framed with generous spice. Excellent structure, ripe tannins, strawberry jam finish with vanilla and promise to age. This wine is ideal to pour with almost anything, from burgers to barbecue to the family roast.
  Lake County Chardonnay Reserve
Smokey, toasted almond, green apples and lemon drop are the distinctive characteristics of our 2003 Chardonnay. A rich style that allows hints of spice and buttery vanilla. Firm and elegant with a silky smooth finish.
  Lake County Legend
A complex wine with apple, nutmeg and toasted almond. Framed and accented by lightly toasted oak. Fully mature with firm acidity and a clean, pronounced finish.
  Lake County Non Vintage Port
Fig, Blackcherry, ripe, mouthfilling, big finish
  Plunkett Creek Series Cabernet Franc
Ripe and extracted lean blueberry and lavender shyness. A teasing core of ripe decadent cherry and coffee richness. A firm wall of tannin and a tight burst to fruit to finish.
  Plunkett Creek Series Cabernet Sauvignon
Silky, rich and ripe with black currant and black cherry fruit, the Plunkett Creek Cabernet Sauvignon was aged in French Oak for eighteen months and allowed to rest in the bottle for seven more before release. Supple and drinkable now, this wine is built to age well into the next decade, continuing to evolve in complexity and depth. Serve with rare meats, dark chocolate desserts, and soft, pungent cheeses.
  Plunkett Creek Series Merlot
Dark, ripe plums and smoke lead the aromas as this wine unfolds with a complexity unusual in Merlot. On the palate, spicy vanilla oak adds depth to the plum and cherry notes, with structured tannins supporting the wine mid-palate and leading into the smooth, almost creamy finish. A real crowd-pleaser and excellent with a wide variety of main dishes, notably duck and roasted pheasant.
