his cabernet franc, quite simply, sweeps us off our feet. While a certain amount of angularity and sleekness is to be expected from the varietal this, our third vintage of cabernet franc, is uncommonly plush, even cashmere soft. (Talk about fine ripe tannins!) Plus you'll find all that juicy blackberry-violet character great cabernet franc is known for.

Forward aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, and cocoa are echoed in the concentrated and lingering flavors. The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon is very concentrated, yet the wine also shows a refined intensity and a silky tannin structure that promises to reward those who cellar it.

The 2001 Dalraddy Vineyard Zinfandel shows dense, black, concentrated fruit with dark chocolate, black licorice, and plum fruit flavors. The soft, well-structured tannins balance the concentrated fruit giving the wine the richness, power, and concentration we expect from this vineyard.

Fife Mendocino Syrah is a finely crafted assemblage of fruit from four different vineyard sites, carefully orchestrated picking dates, and a complex aging regime involving some newer oak but also older passive barrels. The flavor is a sumptuous mingling of dark chocolate, spices, and black fruits, laced with an almost primordial sense of rich earthiness. Pair with a wide range of grilled or roasted meats and vegetables. As in the Rhône, game and mushrooms, sausage and olives, rustic braises and casseroles, and other savory foods work exceeding well.

The vintage 2000 L'Attitude 39 is our most complex and soave Rhône-style blend to date. Black fruit contributions from Syrah combine with the intrigue of wild berries, licorice, bitter chocolate, espresso, plus the heady scents of wild herbs, wood spice and sunbaked stones. The extra inclusion of Grenache from Redwood Valley adds a ripe jamminess that “glues” all the other components together. Forward and lush this offering has a mature, sophisticated rich finish. There are hidden layers of flavors that step forward to dance with almost any food on the table. This wine is guaranteed to adjust your attitude.

The nearly opaque deep black-purple color portends richness and this wine has it. Beautiful, refined black cherry and licorice flavors dominate the wine’s beginning and get more luscious on the end. MAX has always been the kind of wine that seems to want to make a statement. The statement here is not raw power, but power suffused through elegance.

The flavors of strawberry compote come forward and define this Zin. Petite syrah and Carignane add structure and tannin along with wild berry zest and spice. The blueberry and blackberry fruit, espresso, hint of cocoa and wisp of smoke all mingle in this classically rich and focused wine. Thanks to the significant but not aggressive tannins, the wine is delicious today, but definitely worth aging a few years.

Our Spectacular, Single-Vineyard Syrah Throughout the wine-growing world, there are only a few vineyards that have even the look of potential greatness. This is one of those perfect looking sites and the resulting rich, saturated wine is our vineyard-designate Syrah. Perched on the rocky western slopes of the northern Ukiah Valley, the young vineyard welcomes the morning sun and catches the afternoon winds, allowing the slow, steady flavor maturation of this small-berried Shiraz clone. On the Palate This 2000 Syrah presents its usual blackfruit/cassis notes with an array of complex nuances of mocha, spices, black pepper and savory-earthiness. Powerful yet lean, its tannins perform a supporting role in its compatibility with rich cuisine. Pair with a wide range of grilled or roasted meats and vegetables. As in the Rhône, game and mushrooms, sausage and olives, cassoulet, and other savory foods work exceedingly well.

This is a rich and full-flavor carignane: dense purplish-red, with blackberry, blueberry, violets, dark chocolate and vanilla. The wine exudes juiciness and is the most complex carignane we have made to date. It has fruit power to spare, yet is smooth and almost plush in texture. The finish is long and lively. There's nothing shy about this redhead!

The 2001 Redhead Red has a soft entry followed by fruit flavors of blackberry and plum, a felt-like texture and a long finish. The full-bodied wine shows aromas of cedar, smoke, earth and stones with hints of espresso and cocoa. Mouthwatering with an easygoing appeal!

The 2002 Fife Vineyards Redhead Rosé is inspired by the elegant and crisp flavors of the rosés from France's Southern Rhône and Provence. Like the best of these wines, we consider our Redhead Rosé as a red wine meant to be chilled. A crisp wine packed full of fresh fruit flavors with hints of cherry, red raspberry, and pomegranate. We serve it as a “stand-alone” aperitif and quaff it with seafood, BBQ, olives and cheeses, and most Pacific Rim cuisine.

Our Petite Syrah is a perfect example of our goal for this variety-sensual, velvety, and deeply flavorful. This wine possesses a dense, twilight-purple color, a bouquet suffused with blackberries, exotic spices, and black pepper notes, and a lavishly rich palate. Longer than usual for petite syrah, with ripe tannins that melt in your mouth.

An explosion of flavors-intense berry, black plum, spices and white pepper. The 2001 vintage provided just the right amount of tannin and acid to make a well-structured wine. This wine will develop over 8 to 10 years, that is, if you can resist this Redhead's sassy, upfront charm.
