Yamhill Valley Vineyards

Yamhill Valley Vineyards Yamhill Valley Vineyards is located on a 150 acre estate in the rolling foothills of Oregon's Coast Range Mountains, one hour southwest of Portland in the Willamette Valley. The heart of our wine making is dedicated to Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. We believe that the distinctive, rich character of our wines is created in the vineyard and reaches full potential through the timely application of attentive wine making practices. While keenly aware of traditional methods, we are committed to exploring new technologies and innovative techniques. Since our first vintage in 1983 our wines have consistently won top honors in tastings and judgings across the nation. Our 1983 Pinot Noir was the first place preference in the famous Wine Center in New York City. From our beginning we have been stubbornly dedicated to the pursuit of a character that is distinctively Oregon and distinctively Yamhill Valley. Our goal is to bring forth from this unusual and exciting property the finest possible expression of its intensity, charm and uniqueness. We invite you to join us for free tastings at the winery every day from Memorial Weekend through the Thanksgiving weekend and on weekends from mid March to Memorial weekend. We are closed in the winter months.

  Meadowlark Rose
Drier than the 2003 vintage, this wine has all the lush Pinot Noir character and sassy flavors of the 2003. It's slightly off-dry fruitiness and flavors of cranberries and pineapple is nicely balanced with a crisp acidity. Great with Thai food! 2004 Meadowlark Rose. Picture a warm, summer afternoon; good friends and your favorite light fare all paired with our newest release-2004 Meadowlark Rose. The bright cranberry and pineapple palate will stay fresh and crisp the entire glass and beyond. Its off dry character will tingle the taste buds and compliment summer salads, cold chicken, pasta salads and darn near anything you can think of. If you find a favorite match, let us know. If you forgot your corkscrew for the picnic it doesn't matter!! Just twist off the top.
  Oregon Riesling
This Riesling is the quintessential of what we strive for with this wonderful varietal. Our estate Riesling flavors are long on strawberry and citrus and have a 'fresh' palate. We like to describe this crisp sensation as a 'come-hither' quality. The wine stays bright and fruity as you drink it. The second glass is even better than the first. Its off-dry character makes a perfect match for many foods, including salads, scallops, summer picnics or just by itself.
  Pinot Blanc Reserve
Fermented in neutral, French oak barrels and left on the lees for several months of aging, this Pinot Blanc is full and rich on the palate with a long, lingering finish. There are classic "estate fruit" flavors of flowers and a minerally-earthy character. This wine is a wonderful accompaniment to dishes with rich cheese sauces, butter sauces and cream sauces. Use savory spices like chervil, thyme and sage.
  Pinot Gris
It is so exciting to have made this wine in what was our 6th successive wonderfully rewarding vintage. Our Pinot Gris has a certain racy character to it. Bright, 'sparky', crisp and with a wonderfully forward aroma of wet flowers and earth. Some of our favorite food matches include poached halibut, cold chicken, crab and scallops. It is excellent with sushi, sashimi and seviche. It is often described as the white wine we drink while deciding which Pinot Noir to have with dinner.
  Pinot Gris Reserve
We took a small portion of our 2002 Pinot Gris harvest and fermented it in French oak barrels. This barrel fermentation seems to add a warnth and complexity to the wine which contributes to a fuller middle palate and long finish. This wine was subsequently blended with a portion of our stainless steel fermented Pinot Gris to add a forward, fruity component. The wine received extended aging in barrel and was bottled in May, 2003. We are especially attracted to the bright, crisp quality of this wine and enjoy having it with a variety of foods. We recommend pacific northwest oysters on the half shell, grilled scallops, sushi, sashimi and a wide range of foods. It's also delicious by itself.
  Pinot Noir
Our Pinot Noir wines are typically deep in pigment, rich in phenolics and tannins and strong in black-fruit qualities. 2001 was an unusually elegant year. The wine is very forward with black fruit, cranberry and “earthy-minerally” flavors. It is a delight to drink even at this young age and will continue to develop for many years.
  Pinot Noir
This is the third of what is now seven successive superb vintages for us. They are quite fleshy like the '98s but they also show some of the earthy aromas of the '99s. It is without question another very successful vintage for Yamhill Valley Vineyards. While this wine is delicious now and stands up to hearty dishes, it will reward you with years of cellaring.
  Pinot Noir Reserve
As is typical of Pinots from the recently recognized McMinnville AVA, and certainly true of our wines, this Reserve is robust and structured. It has lots of sweet, dark fruit and mocha character but also the acid and tannin to give it spark and help it live a relatively long life. It is youthful enough at this time (Jan 2006) that I would suggest, for at least the next year, an aeration decanting prior to serving to help bring out the fruit.
