The Minnicks have been involved in winemaking for nearly 20 years, mostly in the Napa Valley. Rich's roots run deep in the vineyards, where he has tended his own vines and viticulture interests for even more years. In 1997 Tara and Rich moved to Sonoma County from Napa County, St. Helena, where they had also owned and operated a bed and breakfast on their six acre ranch. Rich had planted a vineyard there in the late 1970s, making wines for family, friends, and guests. In 1995, Tara and Rich were very fortunate to locate and secure 8 acres of virgin, undeveloped land, nestled in the beautiful foothills between northern Santa Rosa and Forestville. Seeing that this site was surrounded by lush vineyards owned or contracted by some of Sonoma's and Napa's finest wineries. What appeared to be too good to be true became their reality. The Minnicks committed themselves to building this Estate winery and planting the 3 acre Cabernet vineyard with their own hands. This has been their dream. From preparing the soil, to planting each Cabernet Sauvignon rootstock, to annual pruning, and even in taking advantage of using an ancient building for their winery, every step bears their fingerprints. After Tara Bella was bonded in 1997, Rich and Tara bought grapes for three vintages from some of Napa and Sonoma's finest growers. In 2000, their own vineyard produced their first estate wine, which is currently aging in French oak barrels. The Minnicks can hardly wait to release their first estate Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon in 2003. Tara Bella has won over 15 Gold Medals at International Wine Competitions. They specialize in truly handcrafted Cabernet Sauvignon, each bottle is hand waxed and numbered. They limit their production to approximately 350 cases annually.

GOLD MEDAL WINNER - OUR "CNN VINTAGE"! In case there are some of you who haven't heard, this is our estate vintage where CNN came and filmed our harvest. The segment was televised on CNN's Newsnight with Aaron Brown. Needless to say, this is truly a special vintage for Rich and I.
The grapes were harvested from our Estate three acre vineyard. There's no blending here, Tara Bella is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and the finish is ever lasting...

GOLD MEDAL WINNER Has a very ripe bouquet of cherry, blackberry, black raspberry, currant, and chocolate. Everything repeats as medium broad, mouth filling flavors with good acidity joined by a significant amount of fine tannins. The finish is broad and long which adds a hint of spice, and the wine is well balanced, structured, and integrated. Nicely fruity, good richness and body and will even get better and better with age.

2002 DOUBLE GOLD MEDAL WINNER The grapes were hand selected and harvested from two vineyards in the Napa Valley. An extremely limited production wine that captures the heart of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The vibrant purplish ruby color of the 1999 Napa Valley leads to an enticing array of scents, suggesting juicy blackberry, cocoa, ripe plum, and toasted vanilla bean. On the palate this powerful, medium to full bodied wine is bursting with wild blueberry, black currant, cedar, and toast, with a lovely buttery berry on the long finish. Impressive concentration along with moderate tannins and crisp acidity insure this admirably structured yet generous offering will age beautifully for many years, but due to its relative forwardness, would drink great tonight.

Tara Bella Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon
2002 SILVER MEDAL WINNER Total production 123 cases. The grapes were hand selected and harvested from one vineyard in the Dry Creek appellation. Rich, the owner-winemaker, was not going to release this beautiful wine until it was ready. He felt too many people were in a hurry and released this vintage before its time. By waiting, he is reaping a truly balanced, full bodied wine that has lots of layers that mingle with soft tannins. The finish seems to never end, but don't let us try to describe it for you, try it and decide for yourself!

210 cases produced. The grapes were hand selected and harvested from two vineyards located in the Dry Creek and Alexander Valley appellations. Wine Spectator says, "It's ripe, with juicy black cherry, blackberry, cedar and tobacco notes, with a hint of spicy orange peel on the finish." This wine finishes with lots of flavor, complexity, and wonderful tannins.
