Van Ruiten Family Winery

Van Ruiten Family Winery It was the dream of a young Dutch immigrant to grow quality grapes and produce truly outstanding wines. After his arrival in the United States shortly after World War II, John Van Ruiten settled in the Lodi area. His desire to have his own land was realized when in the early 1950’s and with his personal ‘sweat equity’, John bought his first vineyard property. He then planted Zinfandel vines and began growing winegrapes in the Lodi Appellation. Five decades later, the Van Ruitens farm over 800 acres of winegrapes, with only their very best fruit destined to carry the family name. After more than fifty years, their ambition became a reality as the Van Ruiten Family Winery was built just prior to the 2000 harvest. Three generations of the Van Ruiten family now work together to tend the vineyards and manage their new winery. The Van Ruitens believe that hard work and an uncompromising commitment to top quality are the cornerstones of their business.

  CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2001
Dense, multi-layered with complex flavors of licorice and cassis. Highest quality, hand selected Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from our family vineyards. Aged 20 months in French oak barrels.
  CAB-SHIRAZ 2001
All of the fruit which is destined to become a Van Ruiten Vineyards wine is grown in a sustainable manner, using environmentally friendly practices. The 2001 vintage yielded a rich, generous wine which is loaded with flavors of currants, blackberries, spice and plums. The lengthy finish is the result of patient aging in small French and American oak barrels.
  CHARDONNAY 2002
French oak aged in barrel for 1 year, this rich and creamy wine has hints of pineapple and melon. Layered with warm, toasty oak and has a buttery finish that lingers on the palate. This is an elegant wine with a distinctive flavor.
  LATE HARVEST ZINFANDEL 2002
Deep garnet colors resulting from extended skin contact are matched only by this wine’s luscious Raspberry and Smoky, Black Cherry flavors. With a hint of residual sugar, this wine will pair nicely with smoked pork or your favorite raspberry desert. 375ml, packed 12 bottles to a case.
  OLD VINE ZINFANDEL RESERVE 2001
Our Old Vine Zinfandel has rich flavors of fully ripe and luscious fruit. The dark purple color with subtle hints of garnet speaks to the layers of plum, raspberry, brambles, cedar and pepper spice.
  SAUVIGNON BLANC, LAKE COUNTY 2003
Crisp fruit-forward aromas of grapefruit and citrus are complimented by luscious flavors of lemongrass and fresh herbs. Terrific as a cocktail, and a wonderful pairing with oysters and shellfish.
  SYRAH 2001
Barrel aged for 15 months in French oak. Shows beautiful rich aromas and flavors of spice, plum and black cherry. Complex mid-pallet wine. Velvety gracefulness, but not quite over the top.
  VIOGNIER 2002
Incredible essences of honeysuckle and apricots are typical of this Rhone varietal. Mouth-filling flavors of ripe stone fruits linger on the palate and suggest pairing this wine with most chicken and fish dishes.
