Harpoon Brewery

Harpoon Brewery We started the Harpoon Brewery in 1986 because—like today—we loved beer and wanted more good choices. While traveling in Europe after college, we drank many wonderfully diverse, fresh, local beers. We also saw firsthand how important local breweries were to their communities. After our travels, we asked each other, "why not bring great beer and that sense of community to New England?" That was the genesis of the Harpoon Brewery.

  Harpoon Ale
Harpoon Ale was the first in the family of Harpoon beers. It is important to know that when it was first brewed in 1987, there were virtually no other American Pale Ales or Amber Ales available in Boston, let alone an ale brewed within the city limits. Harpoon Ale was the product of extensive research and test brews by Harpoon’s founders to find the right beer to launch the Harpoon Brewery. It has a loyal following to this day.
  Harpoon Brown Session Ale
Harpoon Brown is brewed to accentuate the sweeter, rounder notes derived from six different malts, including a de-husked chocolate malt that adds a hint of chocolate. The blend of these malts produces a beer that is complex and delicious without being heavy. This drinkable beer is perfect as a session beer or paired with foods.
  Harpoon IPA
The origins of India Pale Ale (IPA) dictate its flavor profile. As a result of needing a beer that could withstand the trip from England to India via unrefrigerated sailing vessels, the English brewers took advantage of two natural preservatives: alcohol and hops. Harpoon IPA is an interpretation of the classic English style using hops and malt grown in the United States.
  Harpoon Munchen Dark
The name of this Harpoon beer leaves little to the imagination: it is dark in color and its origins are in Munich. The Munchen Dunkel style, as it is known, was brewed throughout the Bavarian region of Germany with a notable presence in the cities of Kulmback and Erlanger as well. Munchen Dunkel is considered the traditional beer of Munich and can be found in taverns throughout the city and region. Although this style has been around for centuries, it enjoyed its height of popularity in the 1800’s, primarily from 1840 to 1890. Today this style can encompass a wide range of dark lagers.
