Description:
Atwater Estate Vineyard's Somerset Blush has the old-time flair of the Catawba grape that was first cultivated by settlers in the Finger Lakes two centuries ago. This native American variety was blended with Cayuga to provide a light, fruity wine that is perfect with appetizers and sharing with friends.

Varietal Definition
Catawba:
This was perhaps the earliest discovered native American grape, growing wild in Ohio and New York valleys, but it has since been surpassed by the Concord as the most widely planted native East Coast grape varietal. It primarily is used to make off-dry or sweet red wines, with a pronounced foxy (a unique aroma/flavor profile variously described as wild and musky) labrusca flavor. A number of producers also utilize this grape to make sparkling wine.
|
Cayuga:
A hybrid cross between the Johannisberg Riesling and Seyval Blanc grapes. Makes a fruity white wine of mild intensity somewhat similar to Aurore. Widely grown in the Finger Lakes region of New York State and other cool regions of North America.
