Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc Wine Details
Price:

Description: Cabernet Franc is one of the five major grapes of the Bordeaux region in France. Cabernet Franc is actually one of the parents to Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Sauvigon Blanc. Cabernet Franc is fruitier, less acidic and less herbal in taste and hence a bit milder than Cabernet Sauvignon. It has black cherry flavors. The wine has aged in used French oak barrels and new Hungarian oak and American oak for 18 months. While this wine pairs well with red meats and pasta dishes, it also works well with most vegetables, especially with stronger tasting ones like zucchini. Hence, Cab Franc is a very popular wine for vegetarians. We have about 1.5 acres of Cab Franc growing in the field to the south of the tasting room toward Macedonia Road. Cabernet Franc is used also in blending of our “In a Heartbeat”

Varietal Definition
Cabernet Franc:
Cabernet Franc is an accessible, spicy, herbal, dark blue grape variety that is often compared to Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc tends to be softer and has less tannin than Cabernet Sauvignon, although the two can be difficult to distinguish. Sometimes the French refer to Cabernets, which could mean either of the two grapes. Its typical aromas include an herbaceous and pronounced peppery nose, even in ripe fruit, and something eerily like tobacco. The Cabernet Franc ripens at an earlier stage, which gives it reason to exist in the Bordeaux area. In the Loire, where we find it a lot, it gives a clear red fresh and fruity wine.
