Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Details
Price: $59.00 per bottle

Description: We have been lucky to be able to purchase fruit from the Vallerga family for nearly fifteen years now. Strong grower-winery relationships are integral in producing superlative wines. The vineyard is located at the base of Mt. Veeder in the Yountville AVA, stretching from the alluvial benchlands up to the foothills. The sparse soils are gravelly in nature and provide for wines that are full of dark fruits and intense minerality. Our 2002 Cabernet from the Vallerga Vineyard is one of the more concentrated and intense wines we have produced from the vineyard. Explosive flavors of cassis, vanilla, sage and black currant are balanced with vivid acidity and firm tannins. This is a wine that will certainly benefit from time in the cellar. For current consumption we recommend decanting or a thorough aeration in the glass for maximum enjoyment.

Varietal Definition
Cabernet Sauvignon:
Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted and significant among the five dominant varieties in France’s Bordeaux region, as well as the most successful red wine produced in California. Though it was thought to be an ancient variety, recent genetic studies at U.C. Davis have determined that Cabernet Sauvignon is actually the hybrid offspring of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon berries are small with black, thick and very tough skin. This toughness makes the grapes fairly resistant to disease and spoilage and able to withstand some autumn rains with little or no damage. It is a mid to late season ripener. These growth characteristics, along with its flavor appeal have made Cabernet Sauvignon one of the most popular red wine varieties worldwide.
