Lawer Vineyard Syrah

Lawer Vineyard Syrah Wine Details

Description: Syrah is certainly one of our passions here at Page Springs Cellars. We work with Syrah from several different vineyards in California and Arizona and have planted clones from Hermitage, France on our own Estate. The Lawer Vineyard, located on the Sonoma side of Knights Valley, is an exceptional site for Syrah This wine was produced from the first harvest of this newly planted vineyard. Although much notoriety goes to old vineyards, first harvests can often be exceptional as the vines only produce scant fruit with great concentration. Complex, well structured and age worthiness are but a few of this wine's fortes.

Varietal Definition
Syrah is the eight hundred pound gorilla of Rhone grapes! In the vineyard and the winery, Syrah is typically an easy grape to work with - healthy, early ripening, resistant to mildew and rot; suitable for winemaking in a variety of styles. The wines from Syrah are tannic without being harsh. The wines will have a taste and smell of dark blue fruit like blackberries and blackcurrant, with a strong spicy side where one can find freshly ground pepper and other spices. Syrah is famous for its part in the French blends, such as Côtes du Rhone and Châteauneuf du Pape.
