Millefiori

Millefiori Wine Details
Price: $23.10 per bottle

Description: With its tropical fruit/flower aromatics jumping out of the glass, the 2005 Millefiori (a thousand flowers) maintains lovely acidity reminiscent of grapefruit, which keeps it alive, and it has flavours galore. It was again cold-fermented and cold-bottled to retain a fresh hint of spritz. Composed of Siegerrebe and Ortega, it complements fish, poultry and lighter meats, fruity sauces or those with hints of spice, such as ginger. It is ever-changing when allowed to warm and open in the glass. 12.6% alcohol. Sealed with a crown cap instead of a cork to better preserve the quality of the wine.

Varietal Definition
Ortega:
Ortega’s winter-hardy character has allowed this grape to be successfully grown in British Columbia, and with limited success in Canada’s eastern province of Nova Scotia. This German cross of Muller Thurgau and Siegerrebe is primarily used to enhance Riesling in poor vintages in the Rheinhessen region of Germany. On its own, it can produce rich, flowery, peachy wines, with high natural sugar levels. However, its generally low acidity and its susceptibility to fungal diseases and coulure have limited its use.
Siegerrebe:
Grape derived from cross between Gewurztraminer and an unspecified table grape. Grown in limited amounts in Germany and used as small percentage amounts in blends.
Madeleine Angevine:
Also known as Madeline Angevine or MADELEINE ANGEVINE. Cool region table grape cross used for Riesling-type white table wine production in the United Kingdom and Germany. It is a cross between Madeleine Royale and Précoce de Malingre. Not only is it a widely grown variety in its own right but has claim to fame as one of the parents of the Siegerrebe and Comtessa varieties. It grows well in cool climates and is known for producing light white wines with citrus and herb flavors.
