Sonoma County Chardonnay

Sonoma County Chardonnay Wine Details
Price: $23.00 per bottle

Description: Pears, apples and subtle hazelnut on the nose with high fruit intensity and a slight mineral component on the palate exemplify Stonestreet’s Sonoma County Chardonnay. Sonoma Valley, Carneros, Russian River and Alexander Mountain Estate provided wonderful Chardonnay fruit. Grapes from five outstanding vineyards were delivered as individual lots to the winery. After pressing, the juice was allowed to settle overnight and then racked into small oak barrels. Combining native and inoculated fermentation methods encouraged fruit-driven, nutty aromas and flavors with a supple texture and lasting finish. Fermentation in 100% French oak imparted spicy, toasty vanilla notes to the wine. A malolactic fermentation and aging sur lies, with monthly stirring, added to the rich feel and complex finish of the wine. A big Chardonnay, somewhat Burgundian in style, this wine has flavors of tropical fruit, pear and apple wrapped in toasted French oak.

Varietal Definition
Chardonnay:
Chardonnay is by far the most widely planted grape crop in California and dominates California’s cooler, coastal, quality wine regions. The natural varietal ‘taste and smell’ of Chardonnay is surprisingly unfamiliar to many wine drinkers, as its true character is often guised with dominating winemaking signatures. Chardonnay’s rather subdued primary fruit characteristics lean toward the crisp fruitiness of apples, pears and lemon, but the variety’s full body is capable of supporting a host of complementary characteristics, such as oak, butter and vanilla. Regardless of what is the appropriate style for Chardonnay, the varietal continues to dominate vineyard plantings in every corner of the world. Close attention to clonal selection has made this broad geographic and climactic range of Chardonnay viable in thoughtful viticultural hands.
