'03 STAGLIANO Sangiovese

'03 STAGLIANO Sangiovese Wine Details
Price: $85.00 per bottle

Description: Ripe fruit aromas of black cherry and tobacco leaf dominate the nose with notes of tomato and clove in the background. As the wine opens up, there are hints of Rutherford dust and toasty, smoky oak. Upon tasting this gem, fruit flavors of black cherry and raspberry rush over the palate. There is an abundance of soft and silky tannins with a natural acidity carrying the mid-palate. Lush fruit lingers and the finish is smooth and silky. This wine was bottled without fining or filtration to preserve the richness and nuance we tasted in barrel. It should continue to open and gain complexity in the bottle for years to come.

Varietal Definition
Sangiovese:
Sanguis Jovis, the Latin origin for the varietal name, literally means “blood of Jove.” Sangiovese is one of the oldest known varietals and it is likely that ancient Etruscan winemakers cultivated it, although the first literary reference to Sangiovese was in 1722. Sangiovese is probably indigenous to Tuscany, whose most famous wine is Chianti. Chianti is a blend that currently contains a minimum of 90% Sangiovese.Sangiovese thrives in hot dry climates. Because these climatic criteria generally enhance quantity, rather than quality, it takes careful cultivation and winemaking techniques to produce really excellent wine from this grape.
