Description: Hangtown® Gold Lot #12 is a proprietal blend of four grape varieties. Sauvignon Blanc serves as the base for this blend, providing structure and backbone. White Riesling, the secondary component, provides the crispness and long finish. Flora, a U.C. Davis developed hybrid of Gewurtztraminer and Semillón contributes a delicate floral aroma (hence its name). Semillón, last but not least, is added for additional complexity and structure. Sweet melon, honeysuckle, pear, peach and floral aromas dominate the nose of the Lot #12 Hangtown® Gold. A crisp fore-palate tapers slowly into a long, lasting finish while citrus and ripe peach and apricot flavors dance upon the tongue.

Varietal Definition
Riesling:
On the sweeter end of the spectrum, some of the best dessert wines should give thanks to the Riesling varietal. Riesling is known for its complementary nature of combining balanced acidity with sugar. Rieslings are made dry to sweet, but it is the sweet style Riesling that brought about its popularity in the United States. With the rise of spicy sauces, marinades and dips to flavor our meal, Riesling plays a part in taking off the edge of the heat. Riesling is known for a number of signature characteristics: floral, citrus and pear. Riesling has peaked in California with 11,000 acres planted. Today, Monterey County’s cool-climate areas and its long growing season produce good amounts of character for the Riesling grape. Outside of
Sauvignon Blanc:
Sauvignon Blanc is widely grown in California — at over 15,000 acres, it’s now the third most planted variety — and often assumes the moniker ‘Fume Blanc’. This popular synonym, credited to Napa’s Robert Mondavi, derives from the grape’s historic home of Pouilly in France’s Upper Loire Valley, where Sauvignon Blanc is the dominant varietal and goes locally by the name of ‘Blanc Fumé’. When treated with respect and afforded suitable growing conditions, Sauvignon Blanc is one of the wine world’s darlings. Steely, racy acidity, green, gooseberry fruit, asparagus and a grassy, herbaceous character characterize dry wines made from this grape.
Traminer:
Parent grape of the popular Gewurztraminer clone. Still grown in France and in California but almost everywhere has been replaced by its much more intense and spicy offspring clone.
