Le Cigare Blanc™ is the white analogue of Le Cigare Volant®, The Flying Cigar, our flagship named in honor of the cigar-shaped alien craft, banned by decree of the village council of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1954 from landing in the vineyards thereof. Le Blanc completes the triad of Cigares first sighted in the form Le Cigare Volant and Vin Gris de Cigare®. Le Cigare Blanc is inspired by several of the luxes cuvées of Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc dominated by roussanne, which contributes 97% of this blend. We have supplemented the roussanne with a small but dramatic and richly flavored 3% dollop of Grenache blanc. The wine is intensely suggestive of white peach, honeydew, lime blossom, lilac and the stony minerality contributed by an exceedingly far-off hillside. Resistance is futile.

Varietal Definition
Grenache:
Grenache Noir is the world’s most widely planted grape used to make red wine, sometimes made into a stand-alone varietal, frequently as a Rosé, but most often as a backbone of red blends. Its strength is its ability to grow in arid and windy conditions. It’s particularly suited to warm coastal regions of California, Spain and France. Grenache-based wines tend to be high in alcohol, with attractive fruit qualities in youth and a sweet berry character.Used as a component in some Northern Rhône reds, nearly exclusively for Rhône Rosés and as the primary component in nearly all Southern Rhône red blends, Grenache is probably most notable as the base varietal for Chateauneuf du Pape, Cotes du Rhône and Gigondas. In spite of its fame coming from French wines, Spain is most likely this grape’s origin.

Roussanne:
Also known as Bergeron in the french Savoie region. Semi-classic grape grown in the Hermitage-Rhone and southern Cotes du Rhone region of France. Still occasionally incorporated into white wine blends, (e.g: with the Marsanne grape wine), because of its acidity and aroma but finding less and less favor.
