Niobrara Valley Vineyards is truly unique. It is located deep in the heart of the scenic northern Sandhills just north of the Niobrara River. The climate and geography here is unlike any other place in Nebraska. The rolling grass-covered sand dunes that produce the best beef in the state also produce some excellent grapes for wine making. The semi-arid climate with its hot days and cool nights are ideal for growing grapes with few insect and mildew problems. We are the 5th generation to live in the Nenzel area as Greg and Tim’s great great-grandfather, Joseph Nenzel, founded the town in 1899 and with an ad in the Omaha World Herald for families to move here, the community began to grow. Many of the early settlers discovered the wealth of the Sandhills in the many native fruits it provided. We are a working cattle ranch and have been selling quality Angus and Gelbvieh breeding stock for many years. Our winery and tasting room are right here at the ranch headquarters. On the short drive off the highway you will pass through cattle pastures and over a cattle guard or two to get here. The care and dedication that go into our cattle is also carried over into our wines and we are proud to offer award winning wines that give you ‘ A TASTE OF THE SANDHILLS’ as only the Sandhills can.
