Superior Estates Winery

Superior Estates Winery In 2000, after extensive research, a five acre vineyard was established by Meyer Vineyards south of Superior. Upon the purchase of an 80 acre site on the north edge of Superior nearly 15 more acres were planted. Forty eight thousand foot rows are visible behind the winery. Each row contains 125 vines. Another 1,000 vines are planted north of the original planting. Midwest varieties were selected to produce the highest quality wines. These include Chardonel, Chancellor, Traminette, Marechal Foch, Vignoles, Cayuga White, St. Vincent, Frontenac, Norton, and Catawba. All vines were established with a drip irrigation system that emits 5 gallons of water an hour per vine. The trellising system chosen ensures a fruiting zone for easy hand harvest. The first harvest in 2004 was supplemented with premium California juices because of a late spring frost.

  Chardonnay
Made without oak, our Chardonnay emphasizes fruity characteristics. This very approachable dry wine is great with fish and poultry and especially nice with turkey or oysters. Serve slightly chilled.
  Johannisberg Riesling
This semi-sweet wine is made in the style of the famous “halbtrocken” Rieslings of Germany’s Rhein and Mosel Valleys. We recommend it with Asian food, poultry and game. It goes especially well with pheasant. Serve slightly chilled.
  Merlot
A deep full-bodied color with upfront toasty oak and red/blackberry nose. Sweet red fruit palate with charry toasty oak. Serve at cool room temperature.
  Muscat
This wine is made from the same “Moscato bianco” grapes that are used in Italy’s Asti wines. This is a sweet wine, but the lower alcohol and high acidity keep it refreshing. Serve as an aperitif or after dinner with cheese or fruit. It is also great by itself. Serve well chilled.
  Rose'
This is the ideal summer wine. Made from 100% Grenache grapes this refreshing wine is great for picnics, barbeques, or by itself on a hot summer afternoon. It is also the perfect summer wedding wine. Serve well chilled.
  Vignoles
Reminiscent of the other floral varieties such as Riesling and Muller Thurgau, this wine is sure to become a favorite. With just a touch of sweetness, Vignoles can be enjoyed with Asian food, fish or poultry. Like our Riesling, it goes great with game. Serve slightly chilled.
  Zinfandel
Our Zin is medium bodied red-pink in color with a spicy, complex oak nose. Soft subtle round palate with red fruits and structured oak. Serve at a cool room temperature.
