Guardian Brewing Company

Guardian Brewing Company is a dream born in 2012 from founders Kim Collins and Kate Bishop.
Kim has always loved unicorns...but not just the fluffy, white, glittery ones. She likes the bad ass ones, so she added wings, and adopted our pegacorn as Guardian’s logo. Kim and Kate have been homebrewing since the early 2000s and found in it a a deep love for the craft beer community. When Kim was considering leaving her previous career in the outdoor industry, the only other job she wanted was to brew beer.
In 2012, Kate and Kim moved to Colorado to help make her dream come true. Kate was a university professor, teaching Parks and Recreation courses, supporting Kim as she worked her way into the craft beer industry. Kate told Kim that she had 5 years to make it happen and Kim took it as a challenge! Kim started as a student, earned her apprenticeship, was hired part-time, hired full-time, jumped up to be a Head Brewer, then stretched further to be a brewery consultant...all in 5 years. With the goal met, it felt like the right time to begin creating their brewery. Despite nearly insurmountable hurdles, such as: a lack of water, opening a brewery on septic, zoning challenges, finding funding, and considering over 100 properties, they are grateful to have found all that they want and need in Saugatuck, MI.
