Meriwether Springs Vineyard is Charlottesville’s newest and best-located winery. Minutes from Charlottesville in the town of Ivy, our winery features a 5,000 square foot event center of stunning post and beam architecture. Situated on 40 private acres, the property also features two ponds, a three- acre lake, and beautiful Ivy Creek, which flanks the property. The accompanying five-acre vineyard and unique tasting room make Meriwether Springs Vineyard the perfect location for a special event or simply a quiet retreat. Meriwether Springs is part of the original estate of the famed explorer, Meriwether Lewis. Lewis was commissioned by Thomas Jefferson to lead an exploration of the recently acquired Louisiana Purchase. After a long and dangerous journey, the explorer and his party reached the mouth of the Columbia River at the Pacific Ocean. Meriwether Lewis returned to Charlottesville, briefing Thomas Jefferson on the expedition’s findings, while maintaining a close life long friendship with President Jefferson. One of the original family springhouses remains undisturbed and accessible along a very short walking path from the property’s main building.
