You know the one; the dream where you walk into your boss's office, quit your job to open your own business. Dachshund Distilling is my dream. This dream was born in a cabin at the end of Batman Hill Road, in the shadow of the Shenandoah Mountains, inspired by a local craft distiller, who had only one mission: Create amazing, small batch, hand crafted spirits.
The dream was germinated over numerous bottles of small batch bourbon with Mark, Dave, Sue, Les and Ana; And the idea of Dachshund Distilling sprouted into existence.
Countless hours were spent in endless airline coach seats scribbling on legal pads and airline napkins, analyzing the feasibility of our dream. And there it sat, until late one Sunday morning, after a particularly long and horrible trip, I got up and staggered downstairs in search of a cup of coffee. When Sue looked at me she plainly stated the obvious: That I should quit my job and open a distillery.
The last two years have been an adventure, and a learning experience. One thing I've learned, is that the entire process is designed to test your tolerance for wasting time and money. And yet we have persevered. Now that we have finally received all our final local, state and federal approvals, I have achieved my dream and am able to serve you some amazing, hand crafted rum, distilled right here on the Jersey Shore.
