Chatom Vineyards is nestled in the breathtaking Esmeralda Valley of the Sierra Foothills in Calaveras County. The valley was originally planted with low field crops, fruits and nut trees. When Gay Callan, owner and native San Franciscan, purchased the property in 1980, her vision was to plant a vineyard. The first varietals planted were 21 acres of Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc, in 1981. Today, the vineyard boasts 14 varietals on 65 acres of the ranch, including Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah, Brunello and 6 Portuguese varietals.

Cabernet Sauvignon
An introduction of Blackberry fruit, with spicy oak on the nose, leads to mouth flavors with LOADS of sweet zesty, aromatic fruit, black pepper, cherries with undertones of coffee, tobacco and bitter sweet chocolate. A strong tannic structure that supports a long lasting finish. Will age easily for 10 years. A mouthful of flavors. An excellent Cab!

Chardonnay
This Chardonnay has a wonderful nose with loads of pears, melons, butter and cream with light rose.

Esmeralda Syrah
Introduced with a dark rich color. The intense spicy nose is complimented with cherry and oak. Mouthful of chewy black fruit with excellent acid/tannins balance. Lingering bittersweet chocolate, light plum and leather.

Gitano ~ Sangiovese
Spicy anise to the nose combined with bright cherry fruit flavors. This light bodied classic Chianti style wine inspires whimsy and fun at any time.

Merlot
An abundance of sweet fruit, cherries and blackberries, full bodied, subtle hints of anise, licorice and tobacco. Finish has a balance of tannins and acidity, showing good aging potential.

Sauvignon Blanc
A mouth of smooth and sweet fruit, hints of honey and citrus tea along with a good blend of peach, pear and apricot.

Semillion
The nectar of the goddess! Dripping with honey flavors and dazzled with a touch of sweetness. A quenching balanced acidity finishes this refreshing wine.

She Wines Red
Aromas of vanilla, coffee and ripe black fruit with light wood fill your glass. You are then introduced to flavors of cherry, a hint of licorice and soft coffee nuances. The finish is delightful and not overpowering with spices, black pepper and a touch of anise.

She Wines Semillon
Aromas of Vanilla, sweet pear and a hint of oak

Syrah
Vanilla and extracted cherry syrup to the nose. Full fruit flavors combined with firm tannins creeping around the outer edges leaving a full lasting finish.

Zinfandel
Bright raspberries, cherries and hints of vanilla mixed with dried apricots. Medium bodied, ripe tannins and a lingering finish.
