Arrowleaf Cellars

Arrowleaf Cellars Arrowleaf Cellars is a family-owned winery established by Joe and Margrit Zuppiger and son, Manuel Zuppiger. The Zuppiger family, originally from Switzerland, immigrated to Canada in 1986. They operated a dairy farm in Alberta until they decided they needed a change in life. In 1996, with the goal of establishing a winery, they found an ideal vineyard in the Okanagan Valley. With a solid background in agriculture they proceeded to expand the vineyard and plan for the construction of the winery. During this time, Manuel completed a three year winemaking course in Switzerland and expanded his knowledge with practical winery experience in Australia and the Okanagan Valley. Upon his return, the design and construction of the 5000 square-foot winery building began. Finally, seven years and many gray hairs later, Arrowleaf Cellars opened its doors in the spring of 2003.

  Auxerrois
Pear, melon and citrus nose. The taste is smooth, well balanced and dry. A versatile food wine that pairs especially well with fish.
  Bacchus
Very fresh, grapey, citrus and peach aromas. The palate is crisp, refreshing and off-dry. The perfect summer-sipper or patio wine.
  Barrique
This oak aged blend of Pinot Gris and Auxerrois displays subtle aromas of apple, vanilla and perfume. A smooth and full-bodied wine with a lingering finish.
  Chardonnay
Green apple zest mingles with subtle peach, pineapple and melon aromas. The taste is crisp and flavourful with a hint of vanilla and a smooth finish.
  Gewürztraminer
This is both our favourite wine and our specialty. The Gewürztraminer vines in our vineyard were planted in 1986 and, as it is with vines, they are starting to show their age with great purity and intensity of fruit flavour. This wine is richly aromatic and full-bodied with spicy, mineral, floral and green apple skin aromas.
  Merlot
Made exclusively with fruit from our vineyard in Okanagan Centre. Growing Merlot commercially on the 50th parallel may seem a little unusual but we enjoy the challenge. We spend a lot of time tucking, thinning and trimming to create the right balance for each vine. The grapes are the last to be harvested, allowing them to ripen and develop flavour until late fall.
  Pinot Gris
Complex pear, pineapple, citrus and honey notes. The taste is full-bodied with a crisp streak of acidity to keep it fresh. With age this wine will gain complexity.
  Pinot Noir
Our Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit grown in Carr's Landing, Westbank and Oliver. Each vineyard contributes its distinct attributes to the wine. The north adds aromatics, the central Okanagan adds colour the south adds texture. All three vineyards are growing clone 115 yet the fruit tastes distinctly different. We blend them to achieve greater consistency and complexity.
  Red Feather Blush
The 2005 Red Feather is a blend of predominantly Pinot Noir, Lemberger and Chardonnay. The red grapes undergo a short maceration period of 3 to 4 days and then gently pressed and fermented cool to preserve flavour and aroma. It is finished off-dry and blended with a small amount of Chardonnay to give it a refreshing lift.
  Solstice
Solstice is a blend of our best Merlot, Zweigelt and Lemberger grapes. We chose this uncommon blend to highlight the red grape varieties with a lot of potential in our growing conditions. The Merlot contributes softness to the blend, the Zweigelt adds berry aromatics and the Lemberger, also known as Blaufränkisch, provides the structure and spice. The blend is aged in French oak puncheons for 18 months.
  Vidal Select late Harvest
Vidal is a winter-hardy French hybrid that is particularly popular in Canada and the north-eastern United States. The variety ripens late and has very thick skins that are able to withstand the unfavourable winter weather. We generally harvest a portion of the grapes in December and leave the rest to harvest when the temperature drops low enough to make icewine. We then blend the two portions and aim for an average sugar content of about 30 brix.
  White Feather
This unique blend of Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, and Bacchus shows fresh citrus, pear and tropical fruit flavours. The taste is crisp and clean and ideal for a hot summer day. This is our most versatile wine – delicious on its own and a great accompaniment for light and uncomplicated dishes such as pastas and stir-fries.
  White Feather
The 2005 White Feather is a blend of Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Bacchus and Vidal. To assemble this blend we start with quality grapes, an open mind and receptive taste buds. It gives us a chance to have fun and try something new. The result is an off-dry wine that is refreshing on the patio, lively at social gatherings and delicious at the dinner table.
  Zweigelt
Pronounced 'ts-vi-gelt' this 1922 Blaufränkisch X St. Laurent crossing was pioneered by Dr. Zweigelt of Austria. It has since rapidly gained in popularity and is now Austria's most widely planted red grape. There has been interest here as well and Canada might just become its home away from home. The growing conditions of the Okanagan are ideal for this grape.
