Just as even the great musicians need talented producers to nuture and focus their talents, wines achieve their greatness from many behind-the-scenes virtuoso performances. In Jazz, the first and foremost is the star-making terrior of the Napa Valley Obsidian, Aves, and CWG vineyards. The bloodlines of these vineyards and their fruit provide advantageous structure to the winemaking. This quality fruit enhances the blending artistry of the winemaker. The final shout-out goes to the executive producer: Mother Nature. Without her graceful attention the 2005 vintage would be nothing but noise. Her guiding hand is found in the dark fruits, hints of chocolate and vanilla flavors. Gary's hand is evident in the lush, deep, velvety fruit, balance, and all of the multifaceted aspects of well blended wines. The band plays on....

The wait is over! This Obsidian and Taplin vineyards' gem is now available. 2004 was just a great year to be a farmer in Napa. The fruit bursts with dark flavors and maintains the tradition of balance we strive for in all of our wines. Production remains small, so do not wait to long to enjoy this beauty.

The 2004 growing season contributed to great structure in this wine. As our good friend Al Liner says: "a wine so big, you should put it into an 850 ml bottle." In our third year working with this fruit, we continue to be amazed at its complexity and balance. A gentle giant of deep inky-purple color, with rich, ripe flavors, and a surprising silky finish.

We have never been disappointed with the fruit from the old vines in Russ & Leona Aves' St. Helena vineyard. The pepper and spice of the Napa Valley floor are prominent features in these grapes year after year. This wine represents our smallest single lot production, with the biggest impact.

Our 2005 effort with this wine was so successful that we have increased our allotment from the Foppoli Family Vineyard in the Russian River Valley appellation ~ the sole source for the fruit. Given the popularity of the first vintage, we did not deviate from the original production methods of making this wine entirely in stainless steel, left sur lie for 85-days, and no malolactic fermentation. A method that promotes the true nature of Chardonnay fruit--kiwi, green apples, pineapple and grapefruit flavors abound--the perfect every-day glass of wine.

We are excited to release another new label for Branham Estate Wines, particularly this wine ~ Senal. Eighty-five percent of this wine is comprised of Rockpile fruit, and Senal is another stellar representation of the Rockpile terroir.
