Carmel Ridge Winery

"In both our winemaking and our approach to growing the grapes, we intervene as little as possible with the natural rhythm of the grapes." It is often said that great wine is made in the vineyard. The grapes love Carmel Valley and Monterey County, so we think the fruit produced has the perfect balance of acid and sweetness to make great wines.
Paul Stokes is in charge of all the vineyard management, keeping chemical use to a minimum and relying on the grapes and the changes in the weather to determine the labor intensive cycles of pruning, thinning, and leaf pulling.
Likewise in the winery, the hands-on approach of small lot sur lies barrel fermentation benefits the wine. Lynn Sakasegawa Stokes is the winemaker with a degree in biology from the University of California, San Diego.
