This past December, four more local breweries turned on the taps and began serving their own beers...
But first, there was Blue Mountain Pizza and Brewpub at 55 N. Main St. in Weaverville, which quietly debuted Dec. 1. Now fully permitted and running strong, this two barrel system is cranking out new beers each week and winning over fans in northern Buncombe County and the surrounding areas.
Blue Mountain has long been a popular spot for dining and live music. Matt Danford opened the place nine years ago. He added the brewpub element to “keep it fresh,” he said. “We are always looking for things to bring customers in.”
That historic building at 55. N. Main St. dates to the 1820s and in recent years has been a hardware store, a small TV station, and was occupied by a string of restaurants until Danford opened Blue Mountain.
Brewing the beers are Mike Vanhoose and Joey Cagle. The two have been home brewing for a decade and were eager to take that up a level.
