This vintage is the next big step to our goal of producing estate wines. Cafaro Family Vineyard makes up 80% of this years blend. Our grapes are hillside and give many layers of aroma and flavors; cherry, berry, chocolate and cedar. The sweet oak from new barrels adds yet another layer of aroma and flavor to the concentration of this youthful cabernet. Similar bright and deep flavors on the palate enhance the stylish elegance. The Cafaro Cellars 1999 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva is our special release of what I believe is a very delicious and complex wine. All the grapes for this blend are from hillsides in the Napa Valley. All three districts from which the grapes come are powerful growing areas that produce loads of rich, ripe fruity Cabernet Sauvignon. These distinctive varietal grape flavors combined with oak from the barrels produce exotic spice, maple syrup, blackberry, and tobacco aromas. By aging one extra year in the bottle the big tannins are supple and balanced. The 1999 Cafaro Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva is truly a wine for aging.

Having an estate vineyard gives us complete control over every detail growing the grapes to enhance and improve the quality of our wines. The 2001 vintage is very accessible and ready to drink with a wide range of dishes. The flavors and aromas are forward and ripe without being overpowering -- a wine that goes with food. There is also a touch of cedar from the oak barrels. The combination of structure, depth and richness makes this 2001 Merlot drinkable now but it could easily age if you can wait. With the 2000 vintage we take one more step to completely estate grown grapes. The 2000 Merlot is very well balanced with strong Merlot aroma of tea and herbs. The 2000 vintage is very accessible and ready to drink with a wide range of dishes. The flavors and aromas are forward and ripe without being overpowering – a wine that goes with food. There is also a touch of cedar from the oak barrels. The combination of structure, depth and richness makes this 2000 Merlot drinkable now but it could easily age if you can wait. This is the second Syrah from Cafaro Cellars and is 100% estate grown grapes from our Cafaro Family Vineyard. Complete control over the growing and cultivation of the grapes gives us complete control over the wine style and quality of our wines. Many Syrah producers from France, Australia, and California blend a small amount of another grape to add complexity and length to the Syrah. We believe that Petit Verdot adds this complexity to our Syrah. We are very pleased and excited with our 2001 vintage Syrah. It is not only an exciting vintage but also showcases the high quality level and potential of our Cafaro Family Vineyard. The 2001 Cafaro Napa Valley Syrah is deep, rich, dark and very complex. At the same time it is elegant with balanced complexity to go with many dishes. The oak and grape tannins are in perfect harmony with the youthful Syrah aromas. The 2001 Syrah finishes long and multi-layered.
