Ampelos Cellars

Ampelos Cellars Ampelos is Greek for "vine". We believe that all great wines are created in the vineyard and since the winemaking traditions go back to the Greek cultures we decided on the name. At the same time Rebecca and I have strong ties to Greece: We got married on a small Greek Island and fell so much in love with the Island (and each other) that we created a small Bed & Breakfast there: Ampelos Resort. We’re a small family operated vineyard and winery located in the Santa Rita Hills appellation just north of Santa Barbara, California. We are dedicated to following premier farming practices and meticulous vine management and harvest at very low yields to obtain the highest quality grapes. The varietals we have planted are Pinot Noir, Syrah, Grenache and Viognier, based on extensive clone diversity to provide us our “spice cabinet”. This web site will provide you with information about our vineyards and winery in Santa Rita Hills, a place where we are realizing our life dreams. We have also included many pictures from the valley, our vineyard/ranch and our winemaking efforts to give you an idea about our life, our passion and ourselves. (Click on any of the small pictures to the right to see a larger version.) Included are a lists of links to other web sites which will provide you with useful information about the wine industry in the valley. We hope this website will give you a good idea of the uniqueness of Ampelos Cellars. If you need further information please don't hesitate to contact us.

"Syrache" Syrah/Grenache Blend - Santa Barbara County
The wine is blend of 55% Westerly Syrah, 25% Evans Syrah and 20% Harrison-Clark Grenache. The Westerly Syrah provides a core of opaque, black fruits and grilled meats livened by high-toned spice and violets from the Evans Ranch fruit and rounded by the generous, open knit, friendly, red berry and strawberry shortcake qualities of Grenache.
Pinot Noir- Fiddlestix Vineyard - Santa Rita Hills A.V.A.
The wine is showing crisp fruit, deep garnet color with vibrant, sappy plum and blackberry fruit, accented with hints of cola, warm spice, and white flowers. The nose has the aromas of fresh cherries and a deep spice cabinet. The palate is creamy with the hints of exotic spices, balanced tannins and a smooth finish. Alcohol: 14.4%
Rose Syrah - Santa Barbara County
The wine is showing big fruit with characteristics of pink lemonade both in the color, nose and palate. It still has the refreshing tones of strawberries and tropical fruit as the 2003, including the pretty pink salmon color.
Syrah - Santa Rita Hills A.V.A.
The wine is very dark with hints of mint, distinctive white pepper and earthy characteristics. The aromatics are reminiscent of bright red fruits, such as red cherries and raspberries.
