Bell Wine Cellars

Bell Wine Cellars Situated off the beaten path, just south of Yountville, is an exquisite pale stone winery, shrouded by oak, bordered to the south by Hopper Slough, surrounded by vineyard and cloaked in quiet. After looking for twenty years, winemaker Anthony Bell and winegrower John Baritelle found the perfect place to produce the wines they have long dreamed of - limited production, hand crafted wines that showcase the concept of "terroir". Bell Wine Cellars has opened its doors to the public to share the beauty of the place, and the wine. In June 2002 – Ron Berberian, former California wine wholesaler, and Alex Spanos, owner of the San Diego Chargers, formed Spanos Berberian Winery, LLC. The venture acquired the brand name and assets of Bell Wine Cellars, and is now developing vineyards and winery assets at the Bell Wine Cellars facility.

  Cabernet Sauvignon
Our Cabernet sauvignon, deep ruby in color, has rich, ripe cherry, cassis and blackberry fruit aromas. Soft tannins and sweet oak combine with a gentle hint of pepper and spice to yield a full-bodied wine with excellent balance and a long, lingering finish that will continue to develop with additional bottle age. The wine’s exquisite balance continues the sophisticated, elegant, Bordeaux style associated with Bell Cabernet sauvignon. Excellent today, the wine will also reward those with the patience to cellar it.
  Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 6
Our 2001 vintage is deep ruby in color, with dense, concentrated flavors. The long, cool growing season resulted in high acidity and lower than normal pH in our cabernet, yielding bright fruit flavors. On the palate concentrated fruit flavors are balanced with crisp acidity, firm yet supple tannins and undertones of toasted French oak, leading to a lingering, rich finish. The wine’s exquisite balance continues the sophisticated, elegant, Bordeaux style associated with prior releases.
  Chardonnay Yountville Napa Valley
More European in style than Californian, restrained use of oak and limited stirring during sur lies aging allows the tropical and pineapple fruit flavors to flourish. Vanilla aromas, sweet oak flavors and a subtle cream texture from the sur lies aging and malolactic fermentation, give the wine a delicious mouthfeel and lengthy finish. Crisp and refreshing on the palate, this delicious food wine is a delightful accompaniment to all fish and pasta dishes, or as an aperitif.
  Claret, Napa Valley
Named by the English centuries ago, Claret was originally a red wine blend of the lighter Bordeaux and darker red wines from elsewhere in France . Our Napa Valley Claret is blended from select barrel lots of our Napa Cabernet. Deep ruby in color, with rich fruit aromas - including licorice, plum, and violets - on the nose. In the mouth it is lively and bright, with toasty oak flavors, supported by supple, elegant tannins. This wine is approachable now, while still having a tannin structure that allows the wine to develop for several years.
  Marsanne T&A Vineyard
Marsanne, the main grape of White Hermitage, produces aromatic wines with a honeyed nuttiness, capable of long aging. The cool growing area gives the wine an excellent acidity that balances well with the fruit aromas and sweet vanilla flavors from 7 months in French oak. Aged sur lies for 7 months the wine has a rich mouthfeel with delicious fruit flavors. The wine has been bottle matured for 2 years and has a lingering finish.
  Merlot Yountville Napa Valley
Our Merlot, deep garnet in color, has rich black cherry fruit aromas, with hints of eucalyptus and oak. Addition of Syrah brings depth of fruit to the nose and palate, while the addition of Cabernet sauvignon adds structure to the finish. Soft tannins balance well with good fruit acidity and concentrated fruit flavors to yield a wine that will develop well with several years of aging. A rich, concentrated Merlot with a lingering finish and supple mouthfeel.
  Sauvignon Blanc
Our Sauvignon blanc has a brilliantly clear, beautifully pale color with slight hints of green. Cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks has preserved the fresh flavors, vivid aromatics and brisk acidity, underlain with hints of flinty minerality. The bright acidity on the palate makes the wine lively and provides a refreshing, long lasting, satisfying finish. A delicious accompaniment to shellfish, poultry, line fish and mild pasta dishes, this wine will brighten any celebration. Or, enjoy a cold glass on the patio, on a warm summers day – and wonder!
  Sonnette Napa Valley
Our Sonnette is a blend of the finest lots of Bordeaux varietals, selected from some of Napa Valley's best vineyards; and chosen for their concentration, depth of flavor and supple tannin structure. Rich and luscious on the palate, the elegant mouthfeel is followed by a long, textured finish of sweet oak and rich fruit. Beautifully balanced, this wine will reward those with the patience to age it.
  Syrah
Our 2003 Syrah exhibits wonderful varietal character. Deep ruby in color with spicy, peppery fruit aromas, the wine has good acidity, with a rich, luscious mouthfeel and soft, elegant tannins. The oak flavors are in balance with the fruit acidity and fruit flavor to yield an appealing wine, bright on the palate, with great depth and concentration. Often described by our guests as “yummy,” this delicious wine is a nice alternative for those seeking a rich, round, well-balanced yet softer style wine. A great companion to food, this wine will continue to mature gracefully for many years. Richly flavored and with great concentration, this wine illustrates the great potential of the Canterbury Vineyard.
  Talianna Cabernet Sauvignon
The rich luscious fruit of the Syrah (15%) combines with the supple tannins and elegant structure of the Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) to produce a wine with exceptional fruit on both the nose and palate. The resulting wine has a beautiful balance between fruit, oak, tannins and acidity with an elegant finish. An expression of vineyard and variety, this rich and complex wine will mature beautifully.
  Viognier Tanimura & Antle Vineyard
Similar in style to the 2001 release, the 2003 Viognier exhibits a nose that is typical for the varietal, with very delicate, floral aromas of spice, pear and dried apricot. On the palate the wine tends towards the bright fruit flavors of a crisp, floral Sauvignon Blanc. The wine has a complex structure with hints of mineral and citrus fruits, a lively acidity and a long, lingering finish. Served slightly chilled, this wine is an ideal aperitif on a warm summer day, or as an accompaniment to pasta or shellfish. This wine is best consumed young.
