Brice Station

Brice Station During the late 1800’s, Brice Station was a popular stage stop on the way to Calaveras Big Trees. In 1993 the first vines were planted at Brice Station on the family ranch by Stuart Mast, a fifth generation California farmer and Dolores Quyle Mast. Guided by sustainable agricultural methods, the highest vineyard in the Sierra Nevada thrives in the mountain air and sunshine at an altitude of 3,300 ft. Brice Station produces wines of exceptional color and full flavor that are influenced by a climate reminiscent of the Napa and Bordeaux regions having in common a long summer pulse of warm days and cool nights. A visit to the ranch today finds a tribute to the creativity of the Quyle family, featuring the rustic Brice Station Vintners tasting room, the Quyle pottery shop, Dolores Quyle Mast’s carefully tended vineyards, and an assortment of sheep, geese, horses, and llamas. If you look around you will also discover several antique printing presses, as well as a blacksmith shop where Paul Quyle teaches one Saturday a month.

  Cabernet Franc
This ancient French “parent” of Cabernet Sauvignon has been married to Brice Station Vineyard’s hilly soils and mountain climate. The result is a crisp Cabernet Franc with rounded flavor deepened by barrel ageing.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
Our inaugural vintage of 75 cases was custom produced for Brice Station by Anthony Bell of the famous Napa Valley Bell Cellars using premium Brice Station Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 7 grapes.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
This Gold Ribbon winner was judged best in the Sierra Foothill Cabernet competition at the Calaveras County Fair. Clone 4 grapes selected from our vineyard in 2002 have produced a fruity, ruby red hillside Cabernet.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 2003 vintage was blended with a touch of Cabernet Franc to create a smooth, classic European style Cabernet.
  Chardonnay
This classic Chardonnay has been carefully balanced with a hint of oak to emphasize but not overwhelm the natural aromas and fruit flavor of these sustainably farmed grapes.
  High Country Red
Our clients asked us to create a 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The resulting sum is even better than the parts. To be released in early 2006, this soft, velvet blend emphasizes the best of the Cabernet varietals.
  Pinot Grigio
Spicy and refreshing, Brice Station Pinot Grigio is perfect for those lighter occasions when a crisp white wine compliments a lunch, picnic, or relaxing interlude with friends.
  Rosé of Merlot
Brightly colored, this unique Rosé was specifically created to please the senses of those who have asked for a slightly sweet wine.
  Viognier
15% alcohol isn’t the only outstanding characteristic of this “big” wine from Berghold Vineyard grapes. It stands up to full-bodied reds with its fruity aromas and Viognier depth and complexity.
  Viognier
For the 2003 vintage, Brice Station produced a classic Viognier that is smooth and fruity with a clear, distinctive nose. The taste of the 2002 and 2003 Viognier is of particular interest when compared side by side. In this way you can appreciate the success of both styles.
