Bearded Bee Brewing Company

Originally built around 1915, the building was Campen Livery & Stable and was owned by W.C.Campen. The street along the railroad tracks bears his name. A monitor roof was added for ventilation sometime after 1930, and some of the original open-air openings received new windows as part of the recent renovation. On the interior, you will find the old haylofts intact, and some horse hooks are still evident in the masonry walls. Later, the building was owned by R.B. Whitley & Sons and most recently by the Perry family. Over the years, the building has been used as a stable, warehouse, furniture shop, garage, and lawn mower repair shop.
Renovations began in January 2020 by a partnership between Altas Stark, a real estate development firm in Raleigh, and Bearded Bee Brewing Company. The project was designed by Phillips Architecture and built by Riley Lewis General Contractors. The renovation included a new roof, new water/sewer/gas, new electrical service, new HVAC system, and full-interior renovation. The design intent for the renovation was to not only provide for a successful brewing and taproom experience but to honor the heritage of the building.
