Chateau Margene - Creston

Chateau Margene - Creston A small, family-owned and operated micro winery dedicated to the production of small lots of luxury, handcrafted Cabernet Sauvignon wines (and some other very limited production wines for their Cellar Club Members). Located 18 minutes east of Paso Robles or Atascadero, just off HIghway 41 East. The Tasting Room reopens March 19th! Due to popular demand (and a lot of appointments this winter), they will now be open year round on weekends. They are are currently sold out, but the good news is that the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2002 "Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon are being released this Spring. The much anticipated 2002 Chateau Margene Melange (Cab, Cab Franc, Merlot) will release this in the Fall. HOURS Saturday & Sunday 12:00pm to 6:00pm (except holidays)

  "RESERVE" CABERNET SAUVIGNON
  CABERNET SAUVIGNON
100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Fruit forward, medium-bodied. Barrel aged for 22 months with 30% new American Oak. Aromas of black currant and cedar ... opening up with subtle layers of berry and cassis. Good balance and tannins ... well structured finish.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
A blend of three distinctly different vineyards (Chateau Margene 15%, Lock 25%, Casagrande 60%), each providing its own unique bouquet and finish. Our low-yield vineyard practices were followed in all three blocks, resulting in a rich flavor profile. Fermented in small open-top bins, punched down, by hand, three times per day. Aged sur-lie for 16 months and then an additional 12 months in 75% small French oak barrels (10% new) and 25% American oak barrels (25% new). Unfiltered and unfined. “Deep purple color, aromas of blackcurrant with an underlying layer of cedar. Nice mid-palette with firm tannins, good acidity and a balanced finish”. Those who can lay this wine down for 6-8 years will be highly rewarded.
  Chardonnay
This Paso Robles Chardonnay was barrel fermented in 100% French Oak (25% New). Malo-lactic fermentation was inhibited to produce a more Burgundian style (crisp, green apple tartness rather than the big buttery style that was so prevalent several years ago). "Aromas of tropical fruit and pear with a nice mouthfeel and pleasant finish".
  CM SANGIOVESE
  Syrah
A blend of Syrah (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%). Four small lots of Syrah from separate vineyards, and one Cabernet lot, all within the Paso Robles AVA. 25% New American Oak - 75% Neutral French Oak. “This wine exhibits a ruby red color; an aroma of ripe fruit and spice with a subtle element of oak. The mid palate lingers and the wine shows good structure and balance through the finish”.
