The vision of three motivated and innovative people helped make Calcareous Vineyard a reality. From Sioux City and Des Moines, Iowa, to Paso Robles, California, the hard work and determination have finally produced rewarding yields. Lloyd Messer is really the one responsible for the Paso Robles migration. After selling his wine and beer distributing business in Sioux City, Iowa, Lloyd became a nomad searching for vineyard opportunities. Lloyd “Moose” quickly recognized the potential of Paso Robles as an emerging premium wine producing area. Calcareous Vineyard has made Lloyd Messer’s California Dreamin’ a reality. Dana Brown sold her Iowa wine distributing business in 1998. The break offered Dana extra time to spend with her son Ronnie and husband Ron, yet the opportunity to become involved in the wine business as a vintner was too good to pass up. Dana joined Lloyd as partners in Calcareous Vineyard in 2000. The year 2001 brought more joy as Frances Violet entered the world and the winery became more than just a dream. Erika Messer seized the opportunity to be involved in a winery from the ground up. Erika has hands-on involvement in every aspect of this business. While she enjoys the large variety of daily activity, her passion is in producing superior wine. When Erika began surfing, it was obvious that she had truly become a California girl.

Calcareous Vineyard possesses all of the ingredients necessary to reach our goal of producing superior wine for the consumers. We have the land, weather, sunshine, vines, and winemaker, creating the optimal conditions for the development of the best possible wines.
