In the Fall of 2010, Paul & Rachel won a chili cook-off hosted by a homebrew club at a local brewery and the first prize was a homebrew kit. Using this kit they began brewing at home and learning all that they could about the process. Some of their first batches of beer became wedding favors at their Spring 2012 celebration. The idea of opening a brewery of their own started to grow along with their love for great beer, Detroit, and each other. A partnership through and through, Paul and Rachel have spent these years working towards their dream of opening Brewery Faisan. After purchasing their property in 2016, the two brewers began down the path of procuring drawings, funding, and building permits. With the help of Motor City Match awards, a bank loan, and persistence mixed with good luck, Rachel and Paul were on their way to building their dream business. Construction began October 2018 and was completed August 2019. Opening Brewery Faisan was and continues to be a wonderful and rewarding experience for the owners who agree that the project is as much about opening a brewery as it is opening a brewery in the city they love.
Brewery Faisan is bringing beer making back to the Islandview neighborhood on the very street where beer was historically brewed in Detroit. Located on a quiet industrial stretch with a wooded area across the street, 1087 Beaufait Street offers the feeling of being Up North in the city. Following the path of an old rail line further north about 2 miles on Beaufait Street, the old moniker for Pfeiffer Brewing Company, closed in the 1960s, can still be seen on a warehouse face.
