Corlan Vineyard & Farm
|
|
The word “Corlan” is a Welsh word meaning sheepfold. The label on our wines shows a stone circle enclosure – this is a corlan, a place where the sheep in Wales are brought for shearing and other attentions. CorlanWe are a small land-based vineyard and winery; all of our wines come from fruit grown on our Certified Organic 10 acres on Denman Island. We have a mixed farm which includes Clun Forest sheep, a large flock of laying hens and a propagating greenhouse with nursery. The vines are all on the south facing side of the property sharing some space with Thornless Blackberries and Blueberries. The sheep are pastured in the vineyard during the fall and winter; they lamb in the vineyard with all the wires and trellising protecting the tiny lambs from hungry eagles. We move the sheep to the north pasture at the end of March before we have bud break and leaves, where they summer and hang out with the chickens.
