Peach Creek Vineyards

Peach Creek Vineyards In 2006, we decided to build a house on the land my grandpa bought back in December 1943 for farmland. The first thing Grandpa did was to clear the land by harvesting the trees; he turned them into charcoal in a coal-kiln like the one in the pictures above (the coal-kiln is on the left behind Grandpa), and used the money made from selling this charcoal to pay for the land. Once our home was ready to move into, we started thinking about how we could utilize the land; it just didn’t seem right to build a house in the middle of 75 acres and not do anything with the rest of the land. As stewards of the land, we felt it was our obligation to make it productive in some way. Having grown up on a farm in Minnesota, Ken became very excited about the prospect of growing something; but we had no idea what would grow here, as there is no longer any farming done in the Peach Creek area. We have enjoyed learning about wine, and tasting different wines, since we met in 1991; and a year or so before moving here, we started making wine as a hobby. So we began to think about the possibility of growing grapes on the land. We had the soil tested, and learned that it would very likely support the growing of grapes, with very few soil amendments necessary.

Directions
From College Station via SH 6: Go south from College Station on SH 6 and take the World Speedway exit (the next exit after Nantucket). Stay on the feeder road for about 1-1/2 miles. After Santa’s Wonderland, take the first u-turn under SH 6 so that you are heading back north on the feeder road. After passing the Jockey Lot Flea Market, watch for the blue directional sign to Peach Creek Vineyards and turn right on Peach Creek Cutoff Road. This road will dead end at Peach Creek Road where you will see a “Winery” sign with an arrow; turn left and go about 1/2 mile, then turn left at 2029 Peach Creek Road (where you will see gold and maroon winery flag signs) onto Stolpman Lane. If you pass the community center (on your right), you will have just missed the entrance. Drive through the gate, on past the vineyards, and look for the tasting room sign behind the hanging barrel and grapevines. Enter the tasting room through the french doors there.
