Kaya Vineyard and Winery

Kaya Vineyard and Winery Kaya Vineyard and Winery is a rebirth of Blackstock Vineyards; located in Dahlonega, Georgia. Blackstock was one of the first and largest vineyards in the Dahlonega area. The unfortunate closing of Blackstock Vineyards in late 2012 paved the way for a complete renovation and re-vitalization of the property. Our future is exciting, with plans that include a twenty-two room hotel with restaurant, fifteen craftsman cottages, and an event facility that can seat up to three hundred. This will make Kaya the largest winery resort North of Atlanta. Kaya’s Winery and Tasting Room are built atop a ridge that is sixteen-hundred feet above elevation and offers the most exquisite panoramic mountain view in North Georgia. The Tasting Room features twelve foot windows, Edison light bulbs, and reclaimed wood, making the combination of Kaya and the Appalachian Mountains a retreat. Enjoy the cool summer breeze on our two-thousand square-foot covered deck with live music and most importantly some wine. All Kaya wines are made exclusively from estate grown grapes produced from our property. The Werkheiser family believes that wine is made in the vineyard and represents specific growing styles. Our vineyards are planted with classic European, Italian and American varietals. All of our grapes are hand harvested and gently processed in our facility, we call this the art of wine. Our techniques are meticulous; the secret lies in the management of the vineyard. Our Wine Maker, Ariel, shines when turning wonderful fruit into wine. After harvest the wine is taken to our climate controlled Barrel Room where it is given the perfect environment for integration of flavor and aroma between wood and fruit. Our Kaya Team loves to produce hand-crafted complex wines that cater to the serious enthusiast. Our tasting room goal is to provide an educational experience for those with a passion to learn about wine.

  ACE
ACE, named for our children Austin, Chandler, and Eliza, is a "Family Reserve" selection blended from the finest selections of the vintage. A blend of Mourvedre, Touriga and a little of our finest Merlot displays a balance of dark berry, black cherry, and soft jam, laced with spice and herb. The warm earthy complexity is imparted by the granitic red clay hillsides of the region. These grapes were uncrushed, gravity fed, hand-punched, and bottled without filtration, each quality hallmarks of hand -crafted, limited-production wine.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a concentrated structure of dark fruit wrapped in firm but silky-smooth tannins. None of the sometimes one-dimensional herbaceous character found in lesser Cabernet versions. This wine is smooth enough to enjoy now but should reward extended cellaring with greater perfume, complexity and smoothness.
  Georgia Chardonnay
Georgia Chardonnay has a floral-sweet nose, giving way to melon and pear flavors leading to a dry, mellow finish. The complexities of barrel fermenting in European oak with regular stirring of the yeast lees influence the mellow richness of this Chardonnay.
  Georgia Merlot
Blackberries, cherry, and sweet jammy notes dominate a light herbal quality, notable in Merlots. These grapes were uncrushed, gravity fed, and hand-punched, each quality hallmarks of hand-crafted, limited production, wine. 100% Merlot.
  Reserve Chardonnay
Fruit from our steepest slope thinned and pampered to perfection yields the finest example of Chardonnay our vineyard can offer. It has a floral-sweet nose, giving way to melon and pear flavors leading to a dry, mellow finish. The complexities of barrel fermenting in new French oak with regular stirring of the yeast lees influence the mellow richness of this Chardonnay.
  Reserve Merlot
Reserve Merlot displays a concentrated structure of jammy berry, plum and dark cherry, and strong herbal and eucalyptus notes. A great balance of intense fruit and tannin structure shows why this may be the best variety for Georgia and, perhaps, the southeast. Great now and great for the cellar.
  Reserve Viognier
Reserve Viognier, hand-selected from our ridge top planting enjoys the balance of the cool eastern morning and hot western afternoon sun earns our “reserve” designation. Barrel fermented in new oversized “puncheon” barrels to incorporate the complexity, but limit the influence of new oak, this wine displays the classic “rich mouthfeel” of Viognier while displaying the spicy fruit that has gained Viognier its popularity. All too frugal yields, which keep the variety in limited supply, account for the deluxe status of exceptional quality versions. BlackStock’s Viognier is the second largest planting of its kind on the East Coast.
  Sangiovese Rose'
A delicate fruity profile with a spicy Italian influence from the Sangiovese grape provides a refined and complex rose' experience. Slight off-dry finish pairs with a wide array of exotically spiced cuisine. Partial skin contact on fermentation, light barrel aging and a hint of Touriga provide added complexity to this wine.
  White Merlot
A light, crisp, fruity, off-dry style makes this wine the perfect summer sipper. Enjoy as an aperitif or with light bistro or deli fare. These grapes were de-stemmed whole berry and lightly pressed to preserve the freshest qualities of the red Merlot fruit.
