  Aglianico
Aglianico is the third of Italy's excellent native varieties. It is the noble vine of the south, considerably less known and less appreciated that the nebbiolo or the sangiovese. Our Aglianico vineyard, the first in the United States, was begun in 1988 and now consists of 5 acres. It requires one of the longest growing seasons of any red grape, and we generally harvest it around the first of November. Our grapes produce a delightfully soft, well-structured wine with a strong hint of courants. Like Taurasi, the famous Italian aglianico wine, it can age for a long time, although our Aglianico is quite drinkable when young.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
Our classic Cab is from the Bien Nacido vineyard. Drink it now or age it for 30+ years. Aged for 24 months in small, French oak. A truly exceptional Cabernet.
  Merlot
We have made an unblended Merlot since 1980, and have always made it as a full-bodied wine, quite unlike much of the Merlot that is produced in California today. Also from the Bien Nacido Vineyard, our Merlot is rich, with plenty of fruit.
  Nebbiolo
It has been said that Nebbiolo is the perfect grape for winemakers who have conquered Pinot Noir and are looking for another challenge! The fact that we have produced a high quality Nebbiolo since 1985 is our most noteworthy achievement. Our Nebbiolo is made from a combination of the original Michet and Lampia clones we planted in 1980 as well as some of the newer clones that have been made available in recent years. The wine is an experience truly unique to California wines, with the deep orange-brick red color that is Nebbiolo's trademark, and a bouquet of truffles and apricots. This is a serious red wine that will age for many decades. Califonia's answer to "the wine of kings." An ideal match to rich meat or cheese dishes.
  Sangiovese
Estate grown. Excellent with Italian food of all kinds. Aged 21 months in small French oak barrels. The definitive California Sangiovese!
  Zinfandel
Our vineyard site was chosen by Dave Caparone as a good place for Zinfandel vines, and our Zin has remained one of our most popular wines over the years. Unlike many Paso Robles Zinfandels, ours is of moderate alcohol. We try to emphasize the rich spiciness of the variety without creating an overpowering jamminess. Zinfandel at its best can be both robust and delicate, and we think that ours fits that description.
