Chimney Rock Winery

Chimney Rock Winery Founded in 1980, the Chimney Rock winery was designed to produce artisan wines of "first-growth" structure, style and taste. All of Chimney Rock's red wines are estate grown on a 75-acre parcel situated at the southern end of the Stags Leap District, a geographically unique pocket of land one mile wide and just three miles long. While grapes have been grown in the Stags Leap District as far back as the 1800's, it was in 1976 that its wines captured the attention of the world when they topped first growth Bordeaux at the Paris tasting. Grapes that mature slowly and show complex layers and distinctive flavors are now hallmarks of the unique terroir of the Stags Leap District. Chimney Rock's winemaker, Doug Fletcher, maximizes the potential of this exceptional appellation with the rigorous "Balanced Vine" approach to vineyard management. Combined with the "Fletcher Lyre" trellising system, pioneered at Chimney Rock, the benefit is longer ripening which results in small, intensely flavored berries with deeper skin pigments and richer, riper flavors. Mature fruit at the ideal Brix, nurtured throughout the winemaking process, yields wines of great finesse with fine-grained tannins and impressive structure - some of the most elegant Cabernet Sauvignon produced on American soil.

  Cabernet Franc
Among the Cabernet Sauvignon planted in our Stags Leap Estate Vineyards there are 3.9 acres planted with Cabernet Franc. While we primarily use this varietal for blending, the 2005 growing season was ideal, leaving us with an extraordinary harvest of Cabernet Franc. We seized the winemaking opportunity presented by this vintage and the result is this delicious, accessible 2005 Cabernet Franc.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
2005 Cabernet Sauvignon The late harvest of 2005 gifted us with beautiful dark fruit aromas of blackberry and huckleberry. The aroma profile of this wine begins with subtlety but beware -- you may lose yourself in the different tiers of aromas that begin to appear as you spend some time with a glass. Vanilla, cedar, black currant, toffee and even a hint of lavender and violets appear in this seductive wine.
  Elevage
In 1990 we created our first vintage of our proprietarily named red wine blend: Chimney Rock Elevage. This French word literally means ‘rearing’ or ‘breeding’. When applied to wine, it describes the transition that takes place between fermentation and bottling, suggesting that the winemaker’s role is that of a proud parent, who guides the young wine through its critical journey from barrel to bottle.
  Elevage Blanc
We aimed to make a superb, food-friendly, blended white wine that would act as a counterpoint to our well-loved red wine blend, Elevage. We are equally if not a little prouder of this vintage of Elevage Blanc. Each year we learn a few new tricks to improve the texture and highlight the gorgeously aromatic profile of this wine. We love the ‘06 – it is luscious and complex in flavor and has a beautiful finish. Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris
  Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
This wine has both power and elegance. At first lush fruit followed by a dense mid-palate with silky, long & spicy finish.
  Rosé of Cabernet Franc
This complex Rosé glimmers like a jewel in the glass and has a surprisingly bold taste. It is made in the traditional technique of fine Rosé with the same Stags Leap District Cabernet Franc grapes grown on the Chimney Rock Estate and used in our award-winning red wines.
