The Winery at Cedars Farm

The Winery at Cedars Farm The first grapevines were planted in 2011 on our small (1.5 acre) tract of land. That is all the land we have, so the vineyard is pretty small. We are still able to produce about a ton of grapes here. Additionally, we buy wine grapes from neighboring farms. The primary grape is Landot Noir, a French/American hybrid which produces our ‘signature’ wine. It is a lush, deep colored red with floral notes, a slightly peppery finish with low acids and tannins. This wine has lovely aromatics and a silky finish. A very drinkable wine, on the feminine side. We also grow ‘Cynthiana’ (the state grape of Missouri). A true American Hybrid discovered in the wild in the late 1800’s. It (the wine) was reportedly declared ‘Best Wine of the Continents’ at the World Fair in France, again, in the late 1800’s. A rarity west of the Mississippi, of dark color, with berry and cherry notes, a truly exciting, uniquely flavored, dry red wine.

  Altitude
Our version of the traditional Bordeaux-style blend brings together our favorite reds to create an intense, complex wine. The ripe black cherry and plum flavors are accented by the spicy pepper of the Cab Franc. Enjoy this wine with a great steak, fine dark chocolate or just by itself.
  Fireside Ruby
Hand harvested just before the first frost to intensify the ripe flavors and sugars, this dessert wine displays a dense ruby color and indulgent, dark cherry and current flavors with a hint of caramel from the oak barrels. Warm and velvety with a long finish, this is perfect for sipping beside a roaring fire.
  Riesling
This late season grape was hand-harvested and cold-fermented to bring out the natural pear and apple flavors. Finished in an off-dry style, this wine is the perfect choice for spicy foods, poultry or fine cheeses.
  Rose of Cabernet
Made with the traditional saignèe method, this rosè was taken off the skins within hours of the initial crush, giving the wine its delicate color and flavor. With classic cabernet flavors of dark cherry and black berry, this is a medium-bodied wine that goes well with a wide variety of foods.
  Semillon
Semillon has long been the cornerstone of the classic white Bordeaux wines. Solo, this crisp refreshing wine has hints of lemon, pear and grapefruit with a medium finish. Enjoy this wine with fine cheeses, chicken and seafood.
