Clos La Chance

Clos La Chance In 1987, co-owners Bill and Brenda Murphy decided to plant some Chardonnay in their Saratoga backyard. The wine was good enough that people wanted to buy it. It was at this point that Clos LaChance formed into a company. The first commercially released wines were from the 1992 vintage.

  Biagini Vineyard Pinot Noir
2002 marks the first vintage of single vineyard Pinot Noir from the Biagini property. The fruit from this vineyard came in really nice—ripe, yet with lots of flavor and intensity. On the nose, I get aromas of cinnamon and nutmeg with red raspberry, strawberry, cherry-cola, vanilla bean and sweet spice. Also—hints of cherry pie filling and strawberry preserves. The entry is juicy, with black cherry and plum flavors. The mid-palate is really extraordinary—silky, with strawberry and cranberry. This Pinot finishes beautifully, long and velvety. I look forward to many wonderful vintages of Biagini Vineyard Pinot Noir.
  Central Coast Merlot
This wine opens up with aromas of ripe red plum, jammy raspberry and smoke. I also get a hint of red licorice with vanilla bean and brown sugar spice. Juicey red currant flavors on the entry, followed with rich red and black cherry flavors extending to the mid-pallate. This wine has notes of sweet oak spice on the finish.
  Central Coast Syrah
The nose starts off with aromas of rich, black plum, huckleberry and blueberry concentrate. I also get an element of tea leaf and rosemary herb, followed by red licorice and dried nutmeg spice. On the mouth, I enjoy big bright cherry and blueberry fruit with a touch of mint, dried herb and briary plum flavors. This wine also exhibits nice depth with elements of cocoa powder and vanilla bean spice.
  El Dorado Zinfandel
Beautiful aromas of jammy plum, blackberries and spicy red pepper on the nose. I also get a hint of raspberry tea and dark chocolate. On the mouth, I taste intense flavors of dried cherry, plum, pepper and sweet blackberry preserves. The finish has smooth, yet firm tannins, along with black and red pepper spice.
  Estate Central Coast Rosé
The Clos LaChance Rosé is produced in the classic European style, creating a wine that is both dry and refreshing, highlighting the acidity. On the nose, aromas of bright, fruity raspberry, strawberries and sweet floral jump softly from the glass. Flavors of cut strawberries, fresh pink grapefruit and raspberries. The wine finishes with a beautiful balance of fruit and acidity. A great summer wine!
  Estate Sauvignon Blanc
This wine starts out with beautiful aromas of dried flowers, ripe melon, kiwi, lime and a touch of dried grass. I also get lemon zest and subtle tropical aromas of banana and coconut. Upon the entry of the wine into my mouth, crisp citrus is my first impression—grapefruit, lemon and lime-aide flavors as well as sweet lemon drops. On the finish, a thouch of flinty mineral-ness-a nice way to round out this robust and "swanky" wine.
  Estate Viognier
Viognier is a tough wine to grow—and is even more difficult to make. But when done right—it is certainly worth it. This wine opens up with sweet orange blossom, tangerine, perfumey honeysuckle and passion fruit aromas. Flavors of ripe citrus, Valencia orange and a touch of lime tantalize the taste buds. A juicy finish follows, but not without a nice dose of richness, coupled with fresh acidity. Delicious!
  Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
On the nose, I get strong aromas of blackberries, currants and a whiff of cedar. Hints of coffee bean, vanilla, dried mint, sage and thyme combine with plum violet and crushed granite add some serious depth to this wine. This wine opens up with flavors of black cherries on the entry, along with some plum and mineral elements. The finish has a nice solid framework of tannins to round out the mouth-feel.
  Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay
Aromas of apple cider with sweet white peach and pie-crust, followed by yellow rose and citrus blossom floral note. Ripe red apples on the palate with creamy vanilla, pear and crisp citrus flavors, finishing with a refreshing lemon lime and mineral note and a touch of barrel spice.
  Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir
This very Burgundian-style wine opens with aromas of sweet black cherries, red plum and cinnamon stick with a touch of forest floor, shitake mushroom, dark chocolate and a hint of smoke. On the entry, soft and rich red cherry fruits are the dominant flavors. The mid-palate has a lush mouth feel with hints of plum, chocolate and truffles. This wine finishes nicely with a complex spiciness and mineral overtone.
