The Zissios family heritage began in the picturesque mountains of the Macedonian area of Greece, one of the oldest wine-making regions of the world. The region’s plentiful sunshine and fertile soil provided for a rich wine culture, which played a central role in community life and Zissios family life.
The family continues to draw inspiration from this heritage, from memories such as the fall harvest, when rather than using a wine press, the community (children included) would join in the stomping of the wine grapes. The family has imbued this old-world spirit and joy into the wines of Blue Valley.
Blue Valley Vineyard and Winery arose as a masterful blend of the Zissios family heritage and the beauty of the blue stone and pastoral rolling hills of Delaplane Virginia. The Zissios family believes that the key to making good wine is patience and attention to detail; a motto which is upheld daily by the family and guided by three generations of vintner expertise.
Each step of the development of our vineyard and winery has been accomplished with extensive research and preparation to ensure that our visitors enjoy the best wines and tasting experience. We look forward to sharing this love and attention with all of our Blue Valley Vineyard and Winery visitors and continuing the grape stomping tradition for years to come.
