Elk Run Vineyards

Elk Run Vineyards Nestled in the rolling hills of east Frederick County, Maryland is a historical landmark and home to one of the finest eastern wineries, Elk Run Vineyards. Owned and operated by Fred and Carol Wilson it is a place of serenity and fine wine making. The vineyards they tend date back to original settlers from England, France, and Germany beginning in the 1700s. Since 1983, Fred and Carol, along with their partners, family, and friends, have made Elk Run a shining star among eastern American wine producers.

From Baltimore: Take the I-695 W exit- exit number 49B- toward I-70/TOWSON. Merge onto I-695 N/BALTIMORE BELTWAY INNER LOOP. Merge onto I-70 W via exit number 16 toward FREDERICK. Take I-70 to Mt. Airy. Look for signs indicating Elk Run at Exit 68. Turn Right onto Route 27 North. Follow Signs and proceed 8 miles to Taylorsville. Turn Left onto Route 26. Elk Run is 2.5 miles on the Right. From Washington D.C.: Merge onto I-495 N/CAPITAL BELTWAY toward MARYLAND. Merge onto I-270 SPUR N via exit number 38- on the left- toward ROCKVILLE/FREDERICK. I-270 SPUR N becomes I-270 N. Exit 16 - Father Hurley Road. Right onto Route 27 North. Proceed through Mt. Airy to Taylorsville. Left onto Route 26. Continue to follow MD-26. Elk run is 2.5 miles on Right.

  Annapolis Sunset
A fruity blush, soft yet crisp wine, made from a blend of Seyval Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. An afternoon delight for those warm summer evenings. Serve chilled with your favorite fruit and enjoy the Sunset.
  Cabernet Franc
One of the major wines of the Bordeaux region of France. With bouquets of raspberries this is one of the best growing grape varieties in Maryland. The wine made from these grapes has a cassis nose and produce a unique flavor particular to this varietal that is pungent, spicy, and weedy with olive aromas.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
A red wine lover's varietal. Well balanced with intense fruit; mouth-filling, round. Aged in American and French oak.
  Chardonnay
Maryland Chardonnay is aged in oak and put Through Maltic Fermentation in stainless steel, giving this wine a rich buttery flavor with hints of melon vanilla. This Chardonnay is made from a blend of Virginia and Maryland grapes to the exacting requirements of our wine maker. This wine won a Gold Medal at the New World International Competition in the Spring of 1996 for the 1994 Elk Run Chardonnay.
  Chesapeake Bay Sunset
Thrust into the heart of Maryland is the largest of America's bays, complete with stately plantations, tiny fishing villages and world renowned crabs and oysters, Enjoy Maryland's own wine, vinified to compliment and accentuate the regional culinary delights.
  Cold Friday Gewurztraminer
Sicy, sweet lychee fruit flavors with a hine of grapefruit and long, lingering aftertaste.
  Elk Run Champagne
Elk Run produced its first sparkling wine in 1991. This wine is made in the traditional 'méthode champenoise', creating effervescence through bottle fermentation and hand finishing.
  Gewurztraminer
This Gewurtztraminer is produced with a touch of sweetness which accentuates the spice and grapefruit-like flavor. This is a good match with Summer sausages, Maryland salty bay oysters, turkey and ham.
  Gypsy Rose - Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon/Pinot Noir
Dry rose with fresh cherry and rose petal aromas, smooth full-bodied mouth feel and nice finish – Classic summer wine.
  Liberty Tavern Estate Maryland Chardonnay
A multi-award winning chardonnay. Liberty Tavern Estate Chardonnay - A complex, rich buttery character with soft vanillin overtones, barrel fermented in Classic Allier Oak, aged and stirred on the lees. This wine made from grapes harvested in our own vineyard is our best white wine. This wine is the perfect compliment to any dish requiring a smooth buttery taste with a classic oak character. The 1995 vintage was a silver medal winner in The Wine Enthusiast World Wine Competition, Winter 1997.
  Liberty Tavern Reserve Maryland Cabernet Sauvignon
A multi-award winning cabernet. Robust with black currant fruit flavors. Aged in oak for about 18 months. This is Elk Run's flagship red wine. The perfect compliment for those special dishes and special times.
  Lord Baltimore Port
This Port wine is a blend of Maryland Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) and Cabernet Franc (25%) grapes. It particularly compliments a strong cheese like Stilton.
  Maryland Merlot
Rich and jammy with deep layers of fruit, this Merlot has a nice mix of coffee, peppers, and mint. This wine is a perfect match with roast turkey, lamb, and beef. Elk Run's luscious vinifera grapes are lovingly nurtured in Maryland's verdant Piedmont region. The winery marries the advanced technology of California wine making with old world oenological practices and hands on involvement.
  Pinot Gris
A classic Alsatian-style Pinot Gris, this dry wine exhibits nice acidity with lemon-zest and mineral flavors abounding through the finish.
  Pinot Noir
This Pinot Noir tastes of black current, producing a distinctively mellow red Wine. Elk Run is proud to be the only producer of Pinot Noir in Maryland. This wine is a traditional compliment to hearty steaks, beef and red meat dishes.
  Riesling
This wine is produced from the Riesling grape. Slightly sweet with accents of peach and melon, this is an excellent sipping wine, wonderful with spicy foods, Maryland crab and shrimp as well as oriental dishes. A delicate wine delightful with fruit and cheeses too.
  Sweet Katherine
This after dinner wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, finished sweet, Full of fruit and complexity, it goes well with desserts as well as strong cheeses.
  Syrah
Within a framework of slight smoke and tar lurks a deep blackberry richness and fruity character. Elk Run first produced Syrah in 2004, making it the first Syrah grown in Maryland.
  The Red Door
This wine is has bright red fruit flavors; very smooth tannins and a nice long finish. It’s an easy drinking red great for spring aromas and grilling. 32.5% Cabernet Franc 11% Malbec 27.1% Merlot 1.7 % Syrah 27.7% Cabernet Sauvignon
  Vin du Jus Glace
A very sweet after dinner wine produced from concentrated natural sugars of the Riesling grape. With the full aroma of apricot, and good underlying acidity, the wine is expected to age for 15-20 years. Winner of the prestigious Maryland Governors Cup two years in a row. Serve chilled.
