Badlands Distillery

Badlands Distillery The very thought of Moonshine speaks to the pioneer spirit. And, South Dakota pioneers played their part in that American history. We couldn’t be making our Moonshine today without thinking of the Great Uncles to Jim Herber who found out the hard way back in the early 1930’s. The revenuers caught the 5 brothers down on Sears Creek in the Weta basin as they were trying to stay a step ahead, and destroy the evidence of their still operation. When they dumped the kegs in the White River, unfortunately the kegs floated, so they waded out to break some holes in, but, some moonshine ended up in a nearby well. It didn’t take long for the revenuer to dip a little out and use as evidence to put Great Uncle Joe in jail. It was said that Sherriff Buff Solon led the Federal agents to the area where they waited to raid. The Solons and Herbers are still neighbors today and enjoy a good sip together now and then. Jim Herber, half owner in Badlands Distillery, acquired through the generations that pioneering spirit and just the right recipe, so pick yourself up a bottle of an authentic Badlands Moonshine and try for yourself!
