Carolyn's Sakonnet Vineyard

Carolyn's Sakonnet Vineyard Sakonnet Vineyards, in Little Compton, Rhode Island was founded in 1975 on the well-researched premise that the microclimate and soil conditions found along the Southeastern New England coast closely resemble some of the great wine regions of the world, particularly, the maritime climates of northern France. At present, fifty acres are planted with many Vinifera varietals including Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc as well as Vidal Blanc one of the French-American hybrids. Wine production has climbed to over 30,000 cases annually with many wines receiving awards in domestic and international competitions.

  30th Anniversary Claret
This Reserve red wine has been released in celebration of Sakonnet Vineyard's 30th anniversary. It is a classic Bordeaux assemblage made from equal parts of our best lots of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It was aged for twelve months in the finest French oak barrels. The Estate's most elegant blend shows its beautiful balance and subtle finesse through silky tannins and layers of ripe fruit. A highly complex wine, it is reminiscent of wild berries, black cherries and licorice, complemented by aromas of dark chocolate, black olives, truffles and cedar wood.
  America's Cup Red
The components selected for this wine were chosen for their fresh, forward, cherry-like aromas and their contribution to the light, smooth mouth-feel. This blend produces a fresh, zesty red wine that can be enjoyed with New England cuisine.
  America's Cup White
This dry, fruity, crisp, distinctive blend was assembled from four varietal wines to provide diverse aromas and flavors that compliment New England cuisine. Yet, it is fruity, medium-bodied and crisp with a nice clean and lingering finish that makes it equally suitable as a stand-alone aperitif.
  Cabernet Franc
Our Estate's signature red wine is evocative of fresh raspberries and black currants complemented by spicy aromas of black pepper, nutmeg, and fine leather. Aged in small American oak barrels, this stylish Cabernet is beautifully balanced with its velvety tannins, mellow acids and subtle elegance.
  Chardonnay
Our Estate Chardonnay shows its intense varietal fruit in wonderful lime citrus, green apple and white peach aromas combined with the crisp, flinty characters that reflect the superb terroir of coastal New England. This Chardonnay was 60% barrel fermented in new French oak(20%) and older French and American oak (80%) and aged sur lee for eleven months. The winemakers' blending techniques made this a soft and elegantly balanced wine with a wide arrangement of subtle flavors reminiscent of fresh baked bread, toasted coconut and fresh vanilla beans.
  Eye of the Storm
This dry, fruity, crisp, distinctive blend was assembled from four varietal wines to provide diverse aromas and flavors that compliment New England cuisine. Yet, it is fruity, medium-bodied and crisp with a nice clean and lingering finish that makes it equally suitable as a stand-alone aperitif.
  Fume Vidal
Our Vidal Blanc is Sakonnet Estate's signature grape. Fermented and aged for 10 months in the finest, smallest French and American oak barrels, our Fume Vidal is a well-balanced and highly complex wine with elegant aromas of fresh apricots, baked apples and grilled almonds.
  Gewürztraminer
New England’s cool coastal climate makes our Estate one of the best places in the world to grow Gewürztraminer. Its delicate aromas are reminiscent of passionfruit and honey, lychee and limes, orange blossoms and white peaches, lavender and roses.
  Pinot Noir
Our estate grown Pinot Noir combines the unique terroir of coastal New England with the complexity of well-aged red Burgundies: subtle aromas of cranberries, cherries and potpourri blend with an elegant bouquet of wild mushrooms, black tea and toasted oak.
  Pinot Rose
Our Estate Rose captures the complex aromas of New England’s finest Pinot noir reminiscent of wild chanterelles and red cassis with a hint of toasted oak. This refreshing wine may be enjoyed slightly chilled with any gourmet meal and will delight wine connoisseur and novice alike.
  Port
We hand harvested the ripest clusters from one block of Chancellor to produce our Port. It was aged for two years in 2-year old American oak barrels. It was fortified to 18% alcohol with 3-year old brandy prior to bottling.
  Reserve Chardonnay
Our Reserve Chardonnay shows its intense varietal fruit in luscious lemon-lime, baked apple and nectarine aromas. 100% barrel fermented and aged sur lie for one year in 100% new Franch oak has contributed flavors reminiscent of fresh-baked artisan breads, toasted coconut and wild honey to this extraordinarily rich and elegant wine.
  Rhode Island Red
The deep ruby color and silky tannins of New England's signature red wine are complemented by delicious aromas of blueberries and boysenberries, violets and lilac, and a subtle hint of toasted oak.
  Sakonnet Champagne
Sakonnet's world-class sparkling wine is hand-crafted using the classic Methode Champenoise. The grapes were harvested in October, 1996, after the coolest summer on record. The Cuvee was bottled in January 1999 and was aged "en tirage" for six years. The late-disgorged 1996 shows the elegant citrus characters of our estate Chardonnay complemented by fine cherry aromas of our Pinot Noir. These combine with delicious notes of fresh baked bread and honey from the long aging process on the yeast. On the palate, the wine is crisp yet extraordinarily creamy, providing a rich and long lasting finish. This is the perfect for special occasions....or no occassion at all!
Sirius NV - Sweet Harvest Wine
Our Sweet Harvest dessert wine is made from a luscious blend of the ripest grapes grown in our estate vineyards to celebrate the nautical and agricultural heritage of coastal New England.
  Spinnaker White
Spinnaker White is a refreshing blend of wine from some very fruity white grapes. The juice is fermented slowly in cooled stainless steel tanks to retain and maximize the fresh qualities. On the nose, a wonderful scent of peaches, muscat and fresh nectarines. On the palate the wine is semi-sweet with delicate flavors of pineapple. Serve chilled, this mouth-filling wine provides a natural complement to fresh fruits and mild cheeses. Spinnaker white is equally suitable as a stand-alone aperitif.
  Vidal Blanc
Our Vidal grapes were harvested in mid-October. The classic floral, fruity up-front nose of this wine fools your palate into assuming it has a sweeter style. But in actuality, the finish is very dry - reminiscent of Pinot Grigio. Our 2004 Vidal Blanc was 100% stainless steel fermented at an average temperature of 50°F for two months. Vidal Blanc is Sakonnet's signature wine.
  WINTERWINE 2002
Our Vidal Blanc grapes were harvested after the first nights frost in mid-November. This delicate dessert wine's fragrant aromas of tangerines and apricots, wild honey and passion fruit are complemented by a rich and intense sweetness balanced with refreshing acidity.
