Cardwell Hill Cellars

Cardwell Hill Cellars Cardwell Hill Cellars began producing premium wines with the vineyard’s first harvest in 2001. While the design and construction of the bi-level processing building was being completed, the owners contracted with LaVelle Vineyards in nearby Elmira (OR) to custom crush their grapes and bottle the 2001 as well as, a year later, the 2002 Pinot Noir vintages. The 2003 harvest included, for the first time, grapes from the original Wadensvil vines combined with those from the new plantings of Pommard, Dijon 115 and Dijon 777 clones. Having just joined the staff, winemaker Jim Kakacek oversaw the crafting of the award-winning, 2003 Estate Bottled Pinot Noir. Next, Cardwell Hill Cellars introduced a 2004 Pinot Gris. Picked in early October, the grapes were vinified by whole-cluster pressing and cool fermentation. The wine was aged in the Alsatian style sur lies, then filtered and bottled in February, 2005.
