Blackstone Winery

Blackstone Winery Welcome to Blackstone Winery! We'd like to invite you to learn more about our vineyards, our people, and our history of crafting friendly, flavorful and balanced wines. We are devoted to our customers, and take tremendous pride in delivering consistent quality and value to them in our distinctive wines. Blackstone Winery began by blending a California Merlot, and has struck a resonant chord with consumers and restaurateurs alike. Blackstone Merlot has emerged as America's favorite restaurant merlot priced $30 and under, leaving a lasting impression on all who have made this grand discovery. Building on this tradition of winemaking, Blackstone is proud to offer an entire family of varietals, from Cabernet to Zinfandel. Blackstone is fortunate to call both Monterey and Sonoma County home. Our winery in Monterey County is where Blackstone makes its award-winning California Merlot, as well as its range of Monterey County wines. Our Sonoma Valley winery is located in the heart of the Sonoma Valley, and allows us to make ultra-premium wines from Napa and Sonoma County grapes.

The wine’s youthful intensity promises continued development and complexity. On the palate, the wine is soft and full with fruit-driven flavors.   Blackstone Santa Lucia Highlands Reserve Chardonnay
Incredible intensity and finesse are the hallmarks of this wine. The palate shows elements of tangy citrus fruit, pineapple and smoked cashew nut. The youthful acidity and vibrancy will allow this wine to age gracefully over the next four years. The finished wine is a great example of why the Santa Lucia Highlands is such an exciting area for Chardonnay.
Blackstone Santa Lucia Highlands Reserve Pinot Noir
This is an intensely colored Pinot, worthy of appellation pedigree based on elegance and complexity. Aromatically—red berry, essence of truffles and forest floor dominate the beginnings of bottle bouquet development, while delicate tannins, and seductive texture on the palate weave a beguiling structure for what promises to be a very intricate Pinot Noir.
  Blackstone Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon
The Blackstone 2002 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon shows aromas and flavors of bright, fresh cherry with hints of spice, pepper and violets. This is a big, powerful Cabernet, but the tannins are smooth and round, making it enjoyable now. The wine has a long, flavor-packed finish. Enjoy this robust, powerful wine with grilled sirloin, spare ribs and other hearty dishes.
  Blackstone Sonoma County Zinfandel
2002 could not have been a better year to start our Sonoma County Zinfandel program. The season was a winemaker’s dream, with a long growing season, no discernable heat spikes, and superior quality fruit. Winemaker Dennis Hill feels that the quality is at least on par with the memorable vintage of 1997. Blackstone sources fruit exclusively from two top growing regions in northern Sonoma County. Both the Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley are situated close to the town of Healdsburg, and enjoy mild mornings, warm afternoons and mild evenings. The warmth of these appellations allowed Zinfandel to ripen to perfection, while keeping sugar and acid in balance. After harvest and fermentation, the wine was aged in predominantly American oak for fourteen months. 15% of the oak was new, giving the wine have toasty spice and vanilla flavors without overpowering the bright blackberry and red peppercorn flavors that form the backbone of this well-balanced wine. This Zin won’t disappoint, with a huge mouthfeel and intense berry and spice on the palate. This flavorful wine demands hedonistic fare such as baby back ribs, pork tenderloin, strong cheeses and deep-dish pizza.
  California Cabernet Sauvignon
Grapes from Monterey County enhance spicy, peppery fruit; Sonoma County adds richness and complexity, while Napa Valley fruit provides depth and concentration to the final blend of our Cabernet Sauvignon. This varietal displays a rich ruby hue with aromatics that unleash a fusion of pepper, exotic spices and ripe plum. The robust palate is well-balanced with appealing flavors of raspberry, black cherry, ripe plum and rich spices.
  California Malvasia Bianca
This vintage of the Malvasia Bianca has a distinctive floral aroma, tropical fruit flavors and a rich, creamy mouth-feel. An excellent companion for spicy Asian dishes or fresh fruit.
  California Merlot
Quite simply, Blackstone Merlot is what put our winery on the map, introducing consumers everywhere to the "Blackstone style" — rich fruit aromas, elegant creaminess, supple oak flavors and round tannins. Blackstone Merlot is a perfect example of how each appellation contributes its own distinct personality to the final blend, creating a wine that is rich, elegant and full of luscious fruit flavors

  Monterey County Chardonnay
Monterey provides some of the most ideal growing conditions for Chardonnay grapes in California. The taste is flavorful, enhanced with a wonderful bright, fresh finish. Barrel fermentation gives our Chardonnay a creamy, mouth-filling finish, which complements the wine's delicious tropical fruit flavors.
  Monterey County Pinot Noir
The cool climate of our vineyards in Monterey County allow theses grapes to slowly ripen, intensifying the delicate flavors of this varietal. Bright cherry, jammy berry and black tea-infused flavors dominate the palate. Its texture is silky smooth with a very soft and delicate finish.
  Monterey County Riesling
The 2004 Blackstone Monterey County Riesling offers aromatic notes of fresh peach, Anjou pear and hints of honeyed apricot, which are lifted by a touch of natural acidity. The wine is soft and viscous in the mouth with fresh flavors of sweet fruit.
  Monterey County Sauvignon Blanc
Our first Sauvignon Blanc is brimming with aromas of grapefruit, gooseberry and hints of lemon grass. This bright and lively wine exhibits flavors of guava and passionfruit that persists nicely on the focused finish.
  Napa Valley Merlot
Dennis Hill strives to choose vineyard lots in Napa Valley that will integrate gracefully into a wine with complex aromatics, good balance and generous flavors. Barrel aging in French and American oak contributes hints of vanilla and spice to the final blend. Our Napa Valley Merlot has a generous helping of bright cherry, ripe raspberry and exotic spice, which linger on the long, elegant finish.
  Napa Valley Reserve Merlot
Dennis painstakingly chooses the absolute best vineyards from California’s premiere appellation, the Napa Valley, for Blackstone’s first reserve quality wine. This luscious and elegant limited-release Merlot exhibits a sweet nose of black fruits, spice and vanilla. Medium to full-bodied with moderate tannin, it has a nicely textured mid-palate and a stylish finish that is unmistakably Blackstone.
