Bokisch Vineyards & Winery

Bokisch Vineyards & Winery What does the name “Bokisch” have to do with Spain? Markus Bokisch has a love for Spanish wines because of his family heritage. His mother is from Spain and his father was from Germany. They met in Paris and fell in love…learning French very rapidly! Although Markus was raised in California, he and his brother spent every childhood summer in Spain with their relatives. In the Spanish tradition they were given wine with water at meals. As they grew older each year the wine & water started turning from a light pink to a deep purple as they reached adulthood. Little did Markus know, his tastebuds from then on were programmed towards Spanish wines. It's not surprising that he pursued a degree in plant pathology and from there began specializing in viticulture. After spending several years at Joseph Phelps Vineyards specializing in Rhone Varieties, he and his wife, Liz, moved to Spain where he worked in the Spanish wine industry. Upon their return, they purchased their property in the Lodi area and planted their first vineyard. Thus began Bokisch Ranches, LLC.

  Albariño
Albariño is an aromatic white wine. It is straw-gold in color with a green tinge. Our 2005 Albariño exhibits its distinctive varietal character with delicate aromas of pear, melon and mandarin rind. It is medium bodied in the mouth with a pleasing tropical lushness followed by a lingering finish. This Albariño shows excellent balance with its vivid, crisp acidity making it a wonderful accompaniment to seafood.
  Garnacha
Our Garnacha is reminiscent of the dense, spicy, Spanish red wines produced from this variety in its area of origin – Aragon . Due to minimal irrigation and severe pruning, its smaller berries and higher skin-to-juice ratio give it a deep color showing bright red hues with a tinge of blue. Subtle notes of pomegranate and cassis reveal themselves along with a slightly floral quality in the nose. Complex layers of strawberry and bright fruit combine in the palate for a delicious, lengthy finish. A medium-bodied wine, this Garnacha shows excellent balance, fresh acidity and bright flavors.
  Graciano
This richly extractive wine is an excellent example of Graciano's versatility. It is inky and dark with robust aromas of black cherry, spice and a hint of anise. Powerful flavors of a warm basket of ripe berries with an underlying earthy richness give way to unbelievably smooth tannins and a lingering finish. Luxuriously full bodied in the mouth, it is balanced by good acidity. This wine will continue to age nicely for 2-4 years.
  Rosado
Our Rosado is made in a dry, Mediterranean rosé style from our Garnacha vines. It is a fruit driven and crisp example of the Roses that dot Spanish restaurant tables from the Spring through Fall. Notes of strawberry and red cherry aromas lead the way to fruity bright and jammy flavors in the mouth. Served chilled, Rosado is a wonderful start to an evening meal or a festive gathering.
  Tempranillo
Purple-black in color, our Tempranillo displays complex aromas of ripe blackberries, cassis and hints of coffee. It is luscious and round on the palate with delicately integrated tannins and a soft finish. Black Currants and raspberry flavors combine beautifully with some clove spice and moderate acidity. As in the traditional style of the Rioja, it is blended with our highly prized Graciano. Our Tempranillo exhibits the varietal character of this noble grape along with a bold California winemaking style. This wine will continue to age well for 5-8 years.
